Prometeon Tyre Group UK has appointed Jamie Courtnage as Business Development Manager for the North East. He is responsible for new business and account management for Prometeon’s customer base of truck, bus and coach operators and tyre dealers in the eastern part of the country from Norwich to the Scottish Borders.
Prometeon announced plans to increase production at its Gravatai, Rio Grande du Sul, Brazil at the end of September. According to several local news sources, the expansion plans were announced during a meeting with local Governor Eduardo Leite at the Piratini Palace.
Yokohama has appointed Gregorio Borgo as president and CEO of Yokohama´s European headquarters, Yokohama Europe GmbH. He succeeds the current president, Hiroyuki Shioiri, who becomes chairman of Yokohama Europe GmbH effective 10 October 2021.
Prometeon Tyre Group has opened its largest global dedicated R&D Centre at its plant in Kocaeli, Turkey. The opening ceremony was held in the presence of Mustafa Varank, Minister of Industry and Technology of Turkey. Representing Prometeon were Roberto Righi, deputy general manager of Prometeon Tyre Group, Alexandre Bregantim, global chief technical officer of Prometeon Tyre Group, Lale Cander, chairwoman of Prometeon Turkey, and the entire management team of Prometeon Turkey. The event was held with a limited number of guests, in line with the ongoing pandemic measures.
Prometeon Tyre Group shares that it recently extended storage capacity at its central warehouse in Germany to accommodate additional stocks of agricultural tyres. The tyre maker says it expanded warehouse operations in order to speed up delivery times throughout the region as well as to offer better its trading partners a higher level of service, however, it that this extra capacity at the Dieburg site, which has been available since 1 July, coincides with growth in its Pirelli IF agricultural tyre range.
Prometeon Tyre Group has named Roberto Righi as deputy general manager. The appointment, which takes effect immediately, means Righi will report directly to the board of directors.

Pirelli executive vice chairman and CEO, Marco Tronchetti Provera, has proposed current Prometeon Tyre Group (PTG) chairman and CEO Giorgio Luca Bruno as Pirelli deputy-CEO, reporting directly to him. Tronchetti Provera made the proposal with the aim of supporting the execution of Pirelli’s forthcoming industrial plan, which will be presented on 31 March 2021, according to a company statement dated 24 March 2021.
Aeolus Tyre Co Ltd and its controlling shareholder, China National Tire & Rubber Co. Ltd (CNRC, which is itself owned by Chinese petrochemical giant ChemChina) executed a “share entrustment agreement” on 30 November 2020. According to the agreement, CNRC will “entrust” its 52 per cent shareholding in Prometeon Tyre Group Srl to Aeolus for three years. But the three-year term will be automatically renewed upon expiry.
Prometeon head office has announced the launch of Pro Check, a digital monitoring solution specifically conceived to offer an easy and effective tyre management for fleets and dealers. Pro Check is the latest addition to Prometeon’s Pro Services family. According to the company, Pro Check provides “a reliable and customized support to further optimize the operational efficiency of the fleets”.
Prometeon Tyre Group UK has been awarded a 12-month contract extension as Mitchell & Webber’s fleet tyre partner. Operating for 120 years across Cornwall, Devon and Somerset, Mitchell & Webber is one of the South West’s longest established distributors of home heating oil, commercial, agricultural and marine fuels, as well as lubricants and industrial services.
Today Yokohama announced that it is consolidating its OTR tyre businesses into Yokohama Off-Highway Tires, which could be read as a prelude to the announcement Yokohama’s bid for the Prometeon tyre business. Roughly a year after the story broke, Yokohama’s bid for Prometeon isn’t the best kept secret in the tyre industry. The news was reported world-wide after we broke the story in September 2019, followed days later by third-party confirmation from the Chinese side of the deal. At that time, the deal was set to go public by the end of 2019. A few months later at the start of 2020, the timeframe switched to an end-of-first-quarter 2020 deadline. Then the coronavirus pandemic happened. And in the months that have followed things have gone quiet. So, where is Yokohama’s bid for Prometeon up to? The latest news is that deal is still on-track, but that there have been a few changes along the way. Fraikin signed a three-year truck and trailer tyre supply deal with Prometeon. Prometeon will supply and manager Pirelli and Formula brand tyres for Fraikin’s fleet of 3,100 rigids, tractors and trailers. Fraikin is no stranger to Pirelli and Formula tyres, having fitted them between 2006 and 2017. Fraikin has also previously worked with Bandvulc and ATS Euromaster.
Prometeon Tyre Group has appointed Ali Yilmaz as marketing manager for the UK, Eire and Nordic countries. In this new position, he will report to Peter Fairlie, managing director, and will lead the company’s UK marketing team.
