Hankook tyres have been fitted as original equipment on Schmitz Cargobull trailers over the past decade under a growing partnership. The two companies have now extended this partnership for an additional three years. The cooperation, which began in 2013, will thus continue until the end of 2022.
The Kawasaki Z series has been around since 1972, but Pirelli reckons the new Z H2 is the “most radical” model to join the range in the last 48 years. India’s car market leader Maruti Suzuki has unveiled a new concept vehicle ahead of the Auto Expo 2020 show, which begins tomorrow. Called the Concept Futuro-e, the SUV coupe gives a taste of what can be expected from the car maker’s ‘Mission Green Million’ plan to sell a million low emission vehicles in the next few years. Yokohama has developed a BluEarth tyre for the concept.
Kumho’s long-standing relationship with Volkswagen has continued with the fitment of Kumho’s ecowing ES31 pattern on its 2020 Polo model. Specially tailored for the car, the 185/65R15 tyre is Kumho’s first ultra-low rolling resistance version of the ES31, with A-grade fuel efficiency and wet grip on the EU label. The 2001 Polo was Kumho’s first major European motor manufacturer OE contract.
We won’t see this combination of vehicle and tyre in the UK or Europe, but it is nevertheless a red-letter occurrence for Kumho Tire. For the first time ever, Kumho tyres are being fitted as original equipment on an Audi model.
Three Vredestein models have gained approval as original equipment tyres for the latest generation of Volkswagen’s perennially popular Golf. The Golf 8 will be available with the Vredestein Sportrac 5 in size 195/65R15. Buyers opting for winter tyres can receive their Golf equipped with the Vredestein Wintrac Pro in the same dimension or the Snowtrac 5 in size 205/55R16.
The Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP has gained another original equipment approval, this time from Honda. The tyre has been selected for the CBR1000RR-R Fireblade and the CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP. Yokohama Rubber has announced another original equipment supply agreement, this time for North America. Its Yokohama Avid S34RV has been chosen as an original equipment tyre for 2020 Chrysler Voyager models sold in the US and Mexican markets. The Voyager will wear the tyre in size 235/65R17 104T.
Positive experiences with original equipment tyres play an important role when it comes to choosing replacement tyres, and leading tyre makers therefore strive to gain approvals with OEMs. Linglong Tire recently scored a coup when FAW Group chose its tyres for what’s arguably China’s most expensive car, the Hongqi L5.
The world’s largest tyre manufacturer has outlined how its latest technologies and partnerships with leading car manufacturers are to help it increase sustainability in 2020. Bridgestone states that its car manufacturer partners sought its expertise on various partnerships throughout 2019, including ground-breaking CASE (Connected, Autonomous, Shared and Electric) projects, and the performance benefits of new tyre technologies, such as its Enliten technology, which it plans to extend to an increasing number of tyres this year. Bridgestone said these partnerships led to approximately 100 new original fitments in the EMEA region, similar to its ‘best-ever’ 2018 OE results, spread across more than 50 different models from 14 manufacturers. The tyre manufacturer’s 18” diameter or greater OEM fitments have increased by over 10 per cent since 2018, it added.
No less than nine motorcycle manufacturers have selected Pirelli tyres as original equipment for their 2020 ranges. In total, seven different Pirelli motorcycle tyre lines will be supplied to 34 new models.
Audi has released a performance version of its Q8 SUV coupe, and Hankook Tire says it is supplying original equipment tyres. Specifically, the Audi SQ8 TDI will be available with the Hankook Ventus S1 evo 3 SUV and Winter i*cept evo 2 SUV in sizes 285/45 R21 113 Y XL and V XL. A 22-inch fitment of the summer tyre will follow – The SQ8 will receive the Ventus S1 evo 3 SUV in size 285/40 R22.
Yokohama tyres have been fitted as original equipment on the Porsche Cayenne since the SUV was first introduced in 2002. This partnership has continued through to the third-generation Cayenne – Yokohama Rubber shares that two of its tyre models are being supplied as original equipment.
Following a long joint development process, Indian Motorcycle has named Metzeler exclusive original equipment tyre supplier for the upcoming 2020 Indian Challenger. All versions of the new ‘bagger’, including the Dark Horse and Limited models, will wear Metzeler Cruisetec tyres in size 130 / 60B19 66H on the front and 180 / 60R16 80H on the rear.
