When Nexen Tire first threw its hat into the ring of Europe’s all-season tyre market a decade ago, most motorists – and most tyre makers – considered these products best suited to smaller cars with just a handful of horses under the bonnet. Product development has brought all-season tyres a long way since then, and attitudes have changed too. So it was that when Nexen recently launched its latest tyre for this segment, there wasn’t a single dimension for runabouts or city cars to be seen.
This year is Nexen Tire’s 80th anniversary, and the Korean tyre maker has unveiled a commemorative logo. According to the tyre maker, this new design incorporates its “legacy and history” and symbolises the “importance of the company’s long-term commitment to its consumers.”

Professors from two South Korean universities have collaborated with Nexen Tire to develop a technology that utilises artificial intelligence (AI) technology to predict tyre performance. The resulting application employs machine learning technology during the tyre concept design stage to more quickly and precisely anticipate real-world properties such as fuel efficiency, noise and handling characteristics.

The US-based subsidiary of Korean tyre maker Nexen Tire has relocated its headquarters from California to Richfield, Ohio. The tyre maker chose Richfield as the site is already home to its North American technical centre, opened in 2019 and one of three that Nexen Tire operates worldwide.
John Bosco Kim, currently president of Nexen Tire Europe, is returning to the tyre maker’s headquarters in South Korea to take on a new position there from mid-November. Nexen Tire has entered into a three-year partnership as exclusive tyre for the Anaheim Ducks, the California-based ice hockey club founded in 1993 as the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. The exclusive tyre arrangement also covers Honda Center, the Ducks’ home stadium.
Nexen Tire has begun sponsoring SK Slavia Praha (Prague) Football Club for the 2021/22 season. The two-year partnership kicked-off during the Club’s first home league match on 7 August. Throughout the deal, Nexen Tire’s brand will be visible at the Eden Arena, home of SK Slavia Praha.
A ceremony was held at Nexen Tire’s R&D centre in Seoul yesterday to mark the official debut of the N’Fera Racing Team. The EV6 is Kia’s first dedicated electric vehicle. Based on Hyundai Motor Group’s Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), the EV6 offers a range of up to 316 miles and rapid charging – when using the State of Charge (SOC) mode, the car can charge from 10 to 80 per cent in just 18 minutes. Nexen Tire reports it is supplying two tyres as original equipment.
