A number of big motocross names have visited Worcester’s Apex Motocross to try Bridgestone’s new X30 tyre. Multiple British champion Paul Malin appeared as a star guest, with guest appearances by Motors TV commentator Amy Dargan and Bike Channel presenter Suzy Taylor. Two Kawasaki KX250Fs and a pair of Kawasaki KX450s were available to ride on the day, and the tyre was given a tricky workout in torrential rain. The manufacturer will add the new X20 soft terrain tyre to its 2015 motocross range in April.
The Bridgestone motocross portfolio has been expanded through the addition of its Battlecross X20 soft terrain tyre. The range will be available in one front wheel size and three sizes for the rear, and will come to market in April.
Bridgestone says it is “ramping up its plans to make 2015 a year to remember in the world of motocross” after securing the services of a multiple British champion to promote its tyre range. Paul Malin will add his presence to Bridgestone’s day of riding at Apex Motocross in Worcester on 19 February, which will showcase the brand’s X30 and X40 motocross tyres. Seven-time Dakar Rally competitor Mick Extance will also get to grips with the tyres during a day that promises to be one of the biggest and most comprehensive motocross events ever organised by Bridgestone.

Pirelli has announced its title sponsorship of the Offroad British Masters Series in 2015. Run by Offroad Motorsport UK, the Pirelli British Masters Series will be run over six rounds at some of the UK’s top motocross circuits, including Foxhills and HawkstonePark. The manufacturer said it would enhance the availability of rider tuition and prizes for competitors as part of the deal.
Kiara Fontanesi prevailed in the closest and most competitive FIM Women’s Motocross World Championship (WMX) for several seasons. The championship was claimed at Loket in the Czech Republic, with Fontanesi winning the first moto and finishing third in race two on her Yamaha, fitted with tyre supplier, Dunlop’s Geomax MX32 front and MX52.
Members of the historic motorcycle skill display team, White Helmets are to train with Enduro and Dakar legend Mick Extance, courtesy of Bridgestone. The tyre manufacturer is backing The Royal Signals Motorcycle Display Team with equipment and tyres for 2014, and has put the group in touch with the seven times Dakar Rally competitor’s off-road school in Powys, in an attempt to improve each soldier’s riding ability.
Bridgestone has renewed its sponsorship of 16-year-old Redditch rider Rob Yates, following his “breakthrough” year of 2013. Bridgestone training development manager Mark Fereday predicted that Yates is “destined for greater things in the years ahead.” The tyre brand will supply tyres and clothing as Yates competes in such competitions as the GT Cup and British Schoolboy Motorcycle Association championships.

Pirelli will be an official “motorcycle tyre” sponsor of US championship the Monster Energy AMA Supercross for the 2014 to 2016 seasons and sole tyre supplier for the Toyota/Yamaha/JGRMX and BTO Sports-KTM teams. By signing a multi-year agreement with championship promoter Feld Motor Sports to be an official sponsor and through its support of riders Josh Grant, Justin Brayton, Andrew Short and Matt Goerke, the Italian tyre maker hopes to enhance its brand profile in the North American market.

Dunlop says it is delighted to announce the sponsorship of Dantec Husqvarna UK for the 2014 motocross season. The former Evotech Stevens KTM team is the official Husqvarna MX1 and MX2 team for the UK with a three rider line-up; the team has retained Steven Lenoir to compete in the MX2 class and has announced the signing of 19 year-old Nathan Watson for MX1, as well as 17 year-old MXY2 rider Tony Saunders to complete the squad. Bridgestone will launch a new motocross tyre and announce an exclusive partnership with a historic motocross organisation at the International Dirt Bike Show. The world’s biggest tyre manufacturer says the sport represents one of the fastest growing motorbike tyre sectors in the UK, as well as offering significant brand awareness and sales opportunities. An official announcement is being made at the hugely popular annual show at Stoneleigh Park, which takes place between 31 October and 3 November.
Dunlop has announced a new cooperation with the Red Bull-sponsored FMX4Ever freestyle motocross team, for whom the manufacturer will provide advanced off-road motorcycle tyres for the team. FMX, or Freestyle Motocross, focuses on aerial manoeuvres – or jumps and stunts – known as tricks. Dunlop’s hard terrain Geomax MX71, which will be provided to FMX4Ever, have directional front and rear patterns, optimising performance under braking and acceleration – exactly what is needed on ramps and on jump receptions. The FMX4Ever team will use the Geomax MX71 90/100-21 as front tyre and the MX71 110/90-19 at the rear.
Britain is to get a new race track, following Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council’s approval of plans for the construction of what will be known as “Circuit of Wales”. It will host all types of racing except Formula One according to news sources.
