Michelin’s X Tweel SSL airless tyre and wheel combination will make its UK public debut at Lamma 2018 later this month. The skid steer loader fitment is the first Tweel model to arrive this side of the Atlantic. It comes to market in January and will be available in two versions – the All Terrain (AT), which features a deep, open tread for off-road applications and use on varying surfaces, and the Hard Surface Traction (HST), with its smooth tread featuring a 100 per cent contact patch, for frequent use on hard surfaces such as asphalt or concrete.
For the past few years, Michelin has sold its Tweel airless tyre and wheel combination in North America, with products for garden, agricultural and industrial applications currently available. Customers here can now get to know Tweel as well, as from 2018 Michelin will introduce its non-pneumatic product on this side of the Pond.
Michelin’s Tweel factory has opened in Piedmont, South Carolina, USA, manufacturing airless tyres for commercial applications. From Piedmont, Michelin will boost output of its X Tweel SSL skid-steer tyres and begin production of the new X Tweel Turf as original equipment for John Deere’s Ztrak 900 Series line-up of zero-turn commercial mowers. The 135,000sqft facility is Michelin’s 10th in the state, and 16th in the US. The company said it would invest about $50 million in the new plant.
