Finnish Pride: Nokian Heavy Tyres granted use of ‘Key Flag’ symbol

The Association for Finnish Work, a Helsinki-based organisation tasked with raising the profile of Finnish-made products and ensuring their success, has granted Nokian Heavy Tyres the right to use its Key Flag symbol on tyres, wheels and retreading materials. The Key Flag denotes that these products are produced in Finland and contain at least 50% domestic content.

Nokian Tyres is “preparing for the future” by purchasing three hectares of land near its factory in Nokia, Finland – but it says this site won’t be home to its planned European manufacturing facility. The tyre maker says the property’s location in the immediate vicinity of its factory and headquarters “enables synergies in future development projects.”

Round the clock, seven days a week production will soon be reality at the Nokian Tyres plant in Nokia, Finland. The tyre maker says the change to this format should “significantly” increase production capacity for passenger car tyres. Nokian is creating approximately 80 new jobs at the factory to accommodate this higher capacity.

Nokian Tyres is increasing production capacity for passenger car tyres at its factory in Finland approximately 30 per cent by adopting a four-shift production schedule. To accommodate this capacity increase, it will hire around 70 new workers for passenger car tyre production in Nokia, Finland. Recruiting begins immediately and four production shifts will be in action by the start of August at the latest.

Nokian Heavy Tyres is acquiring a Finnish heavy equipment wheel company Levypyörä Oy. With its two business lines, wheels and steel structures, Levypyörä serves several original equipment manufacturers and aftermarket customers in forestry, agriculture and earthmoving applications. Annual net sales of Levypyörä are approximately 18 million euros.

Through an investment of around 70 million euros in its factory in Nokia, Finland, Nokian Tyres group company Nokian Heavy Tyres Ltd. will increase its production capacity by 50 per cent over the coming three years. The maximum capacity for heavy tyre production will grow from approximately 20 million kilogrammes a year to 32 million kilogrammes. Alongside this capacity boost, approximately 50 additional people will be hired for the production of heavy tyres.
