Pirelli to conclude 2020 British GT season at Silverstone

Motorsport, UK News
Pirelli

The UK’s premier GT racing series concludes with a three-hour race at the home of British motorsport this weekend. With all four class titles up for grabs, and a full grid of 38 cars, tyre supplier Pirelli will play a crucial role. Pirelli will supply the P Zero DHE to GT3 and the P Zero DHB to GT4, as well as the Cinturato WH for wet weather. In the GTC class, the Porsches will use DHD2 on the front with DHE on the rear, and the Ferrari 488 Challenge will use bespoke fitment DH tyres for this car. Jonathan Wells, Pirelli UK motorsport manager, said that Silverstone would provide a good test for tyres, as “the most aggressive circuit on this year’s calendar, with extreme levels of lateral demand on the tyres and high top-speeds.”

Two one-hour sprint races at Snetterton make up the penultimate round of the Intelligent Money British GT Championship, following the Donington endurance test last time around. Exclusive tyre supplier Pirelli will supply its DHE and DHB tyres to competitors on the challenging 300 layout of the Snetterton circuit. With tight and twisty sections and heavy braking, the demands on tyres could make strategy a crucial factor in determining the weekend’s winner.

Pirelli travels to Brands Hatch this weekend for the third round of the 2020 British GT Championship. The Kent circuit is “a track where the drivers can really exploit the full performance of their cars and our latest tyres,” according to the series’ exclusive tyre supplier. GT3 competitors will use Pirelli’s new P Zero DHE tyre, an evolution of the previous DHD2, with modifications designed to make it even more versatile for the wide variety of GT3 cars and drivers who use it. There’s another new tyre for GT4 as well, with the P Zero DHB replacing the DH. The Cinturato WH tyres remain in place for wet weather.

Pirelli travelling to familiar European Spa for British GT

Motorsport

The British GT Championship remains open to Europe in a way seemingly at odds with just over half the UK, as it ventures to Spa-Francorchamps for the fifth event of the season. Though most of the British drivers won’t be as familiar with the Belgian circuit as the season’s UK tracks, Pirelli – in its first season exclusively supplying the championship – will supply a tyre, its P Zero DHC, that has completed many thousands of laps there at the Spa 24 Hours over recent seasons. Pirelli and its engineers will be at Spa on the Tuesday prior to the British GT races for the test day of the 2016 24 Hours, which takes place at the end of the month.
