At the end of February, Trelleborg invited key dealers to the company’s Swedish homeland in order to further develop connections with its UK distributors and share the details of recent developments at the well-known agricultural and off-road tyre and wheel manufacturer. Tyres & Accessories spoke with Trelleborg’s Agricultural Segment Leader – EMEA, Bruce Lauder in order to find out more.
In February, Trelleborg Wheel Systems announced its ‘Tractor Driver of the Year’ at an event held in Italy. After four key challenges, the winner from the 40 participants was Mirko Fontana. Runner-up was last year’s winner, Alberto Alegretti.
Michelin has confirmed that it has decided to close its tyre production facilities “located in the European countries most affected” countries for at least one week. Marangoni has confirmed that its production and logistics activities are “running smoothly in all…plants” despite the Covid-19 coronavirus outbreak in Italy.
Writing in a statement published on 11 March 2020, Marangoni representatives said: “We are therefore able to receive and process the orders while adopting all the necessary procedures to protect the workers’ health. In particular, our company is taking all the actions to be consistent with the measures provided by the responsible Authorities.”
On the evening of 10 March, Pirelli announced that one of the employees at its Turin factory has tested positive for Covid-19. The third statement in two days from Pirelli said that company was informed by the family of an employee at its Settimo Torinese factory, with the subsequent confirmation of healthcare authorities. In response, the company has slowed down production, but says that it continues to guarantee supply to clients:
Pirelli’s business activities are “guaranteed”, despite the steps taken by the Italy government in light of the Covid-19 coronavirus. And there has been no impact on production activities, according to the company.
Marangoni Group has posted a statement on its twitter feed reassuring customers that its Italian production facilities will continue manufacturing despite the coronavirus (Covid-19) emergency. The statement follows the news that 16 million Italian citizens have been quarantined in the North of the country as a result of the epidemic.
On 23 January 2020, Pirelli & C. S.p.A. received a notification letter from its largest shareholder, China National Chemical Corporation Ltd. (ChemChina), informing the firm that it is undergoing “strategic restructuring”. The restructuring notice covered both ChemChina and Sinochem Group Co., Ltd.
The European Commission has approved 3.2 billion euros of battery research and development support under EU State aid rules. The funding comes as the result of an Important Project of Common European interest (IPCEI) application jointly notified by Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Poland and Sweden to support research and innovation in the common European priority area of batteries.
Michelin is the most search tyre brand on Google in Europe, according to price comparison site Rezulteo. Rezulteo studied the popularity of tyre brands in Europe using Google search volume data for tyre manufacturers in each country from 1 August 2018 to 31 July 2019. The study took “brand name” + “tyre” queries in the official languages of each European country into account.
Kwik Fit’s first Italy National Convention has taken place in Milan, celebrating the network’s growth to 57 centres. The event, with its title “Choose Kwik Fit. Being Kwik Fit” highlighted the strength of the Kwik Fit brand, with specific reference to Italy, and focused on the shared values of the company and its franchisees.
