The Michelin CrossGrip range is expanding with two new dimensions, 480/70R20 and 480/80R26. These tyres can be fitted to industrial, agricultural, and handling equipment, and Michelin says they are particularly suited to mini loaders, reach forklifts and agricultural tractors up to 200 horsepower.
Off-highway tyre specialist GRI has acquired Hungary-based tyre distributor ATRA Kecskemet, a company reported to hold a more than 50 per cent market share in the country’s material handling and construction tyre markets. The acquisition includes eight ATRA branches across Hungary and brings the firm’s 50-strong workforce into the GRI fold.
Fast-growing industrial tyres business, CL Tyres Ltd has bought Fork Truck Tyres Ltd. Founded in July 2019 by Steve Donnithorne, CL Tyres Ltd experienced 10-fold growth in its first three years of business. The acquisition of Manchester-based Fork Truck Tyres by Midlands-based CL Tyres, which also runs centres in locations including Hull and Washington, suggests a national expansion plan.
As of today (2 May 2023) The Yokohama Rubber Co. Ltd. has completed the acquisition of Trelleborg Wheel Systems Holding AB (TWS), the Swedish off-highway tyre (OHT) manufacturer, news of which we broke on 14 December 2021 and was confirmed three months later on 25 March 2022. Following the successful completion of regulatory requirements, the combined business will now be known as Yokohama TWS and Yokohama Rubber’s consolidated accounts will include TWS business from the second quarter of the 2023 financial year.
During what it refers to as a “successful” first quarter 2023, Ascenso Tyres CE has added to its team with the appointment of Pawel Kopinski, who takes over responsibility for the business in Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic and Slovakia, and Olaf Sandeck, who joins the company from Mitas to expand original equipment activities. The aim of generating sales of 50 million euros within five years is “thus gaining momentum.”
Continental has appointed Teck Seng Chew as product manager for the port operation business in Continental Specialty Tires. The new role will see Chew “drive forward the strategic development of the port operation business and act as an interface to research and development, sales, quality management and customer service”, according to a company statement.
Goodyear is launching DrivePoint Heavy Duty tyre monitoring solution to help container handling maintenance managers improve preventive tyre maintenance and reduce vehicle downtime. According to the company, Goodyear DrivePoint Heavy Duty is based around durable hardware and user-friendly mobile and web applications. It uses technology proven in the truck industry but upscaled and adapted for use on larger container handling machines such as reach stackers, straddle carriers and automated guided vehicles (AGV).
Ceat Specialty has appointed Peter James Cawson to lead the company’s growing business in the UK and Ireland. The new Business Development Specialist brings with him 16 years of tyre industry experience, most recently at Michelin, where he served as a territory business manager.

Following an “in-depth restyling and redesign of the browsing experience,” BKT’s new online home at bkt-tires.com delivers a “comfortable and user-friendly environment for users” that offers “no lack of exclusive content, first-hand accounts and constantly updated information.”
On 11 January 2023, Guizhou Tyre (also known as Advance Tyre) stated that it has terminated one of its recent tyre manufacturing projects before it got to the construction stage. Guizhou Tyre said its “3 million sets of high-performance all-steel radial tyres” a year construction project was closed down effective 31 December 2022.
Reflecting on the year that was 2022, GRI’s Dr Mahesha Ranasoma comments that the company “made significant strides in building its GreenLeadership credentials” during the year. The chief executive officer adds that the off-highway tyre specialist “weathered the storms and the impact of the global economic downturn” during 2022, continuing to “remain resilient throughout the year.”
