Some of Europe’s best truck drivers will gather at the Goodyear proving grounds in Colmar-Berg, Luxembourg on September 28 and 29, 2019. They will compete in the 2019 International DAF Driver Challenge Final. With the event, DAF states it is promoting the skilled and demanding profession supported by its partners Goodyear and Dekra. In total more than 1000 candidates from 30 countries across Europe and beyond registered to compete in the national competitions from March to September.

Local truck fleets must reckon with the HGV road user levy, and similar toll schemes are in place throughout Europe. In some countries, such as Germany and Switzerland, the rate levied depends on the number of axles a vehicle uses. Fleets whose routes take them to or through these regions are increasingly turning to solutions that enable them to run with two-axle trailers. Goodyear has now released a new tyre to meet this demand.
Goodyear has announced the introduction of a new High Load version of its Fuelmax T trailer tyre. The HL 385/65R22.5 Fuelmax T is engineered for axle loads of up to 10 tonnes, meeting the increasing demand for such tyres as more European countries adopt higher vehicle weights. Like two other sizes of the trailer tyre, the new size achieves the highest A grade in fuel efficiency on the EU tyre label.
Goodyear’s new Super Fuelmax prototype truck tyres will be on show at the IAA commercial vehicle show 2016 in Hanover. The prototype steer and drive tyres, which are rated A in rolling resistance on the EU tyre label, will be fitted to one of the trucks on display at the DAF stand, which all stand out in highest fuel efficiency. The Super Fuelmax S steer tyre in size 385/55R22.5 and Super Fuelmax D drive tyre in size 315/70R22.5 are a further development of the low rolling resistance Goodyear Fuelmax range.
Goodyear has added its voice to the debate on the integrated efforts to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions in the transport industry. The tyre manufacturer points out the effect that recent truck tyre developments have had on significantly reducing CO2 emissions made by commercial vehicles. It also highlights the effectiveness of the EU tyre label in achieving CO2 reduction across the transport industry.
Greenergy Flexigrid, the fuel haulage service company within the Greenergy Group, has signed a new deal with Goodyear that will see the company fit its 100-plus vehicles with the tyre supplier’s Fuelmax commercial tyre. The tyre has been tested extensively by several European fleets since its 2014 launch. Netherlands based transport company, Snel Logistic Solutions has completed an internal trial on Goodyear’s Fuelmax range of commercial vehicle tyres. Initial internal results have revealed that tractors fitted with the tyres save one litre of fuel per 100 kilometres compared with the other tyres in the test. Goodyear has been competing hard to win fleet business since the launch of its latest commercial vehicle tyre lines, FuelMax and KMax, resulting in its deal with UK market leader Eddie Stobart in 2014. A year ago Goodyear announced that the FuelMax S had become the “first” steer position truck tyre to attain A-graded fuel efficiency on the EU tyre label.

Goodyear has made its new Fuelmax truck tyre available on European markets, including a steer size that the manufacturer believes to be the first with an A-grade for fuel efficiency on the EU tyre label. The new product was launched last year as the commercial line tuned towards better fuel efficiency – the other newly launched product, the Kmax, is likewise tuned towards longevity.
