‘The target is full digitisation’ – Direct Tyre Management’s growing fleet tyre influence

An ice cream van was parked in front of the door when Tyres & Accessories visited Direct Tyre Management’s (DTM) new Blackpool headquarters in mid-May. At the same time, staff were presented with sticks of rock, buckets and spades and were enjoying food together. The reason? The DTM team were celebrating the official opening of the company’s Blackpool HQ and executives were welcoming staff to the new location a few miles up the road from the previous offices in Skelmersdale. Beyond the team-building benefits of the celebrations, the relocation itself illustrates how DTM has developed from a niche player into a fast-growing digital fleet technology business. Tyres & Accessories met with chief technology officer Dominic Clark and sales manager Simon Makin in order to find out more.

CAM appoints Mark Styles to board of directors

CAM has appointed Mark Styles to its board of directors. Styles brings with him 20 years’ experience in a global tyre network and “his ecommerce skills are second to none”, according to CAM. Commenting on the appointment, Mike Allen, managing director of CAM said: “[Mark’s] expertise and innovation will be instrumental in helping us deliver our exciting new portfolio of online sales products.”

MDF Truck Tyres credits CAM fitter-force with business improvement

Jethro ‘J’ Poole is the manager and commercial tyre technician at M.D.F Truck Tyres, the commercial tyre arm and the newest of the M.D.F family of businesses. Operating from its base in Great Yarmouth, M.D.F Transport specialises in transport for the wind energy, oil and gas industries and transporting abnormal loads. Its 25 lorries and 70 trailers are maintained by M.D.F Commercials, its sister commercial workshop.

Tyrenet launches online, public-facing service

Tyrenet has launched an on-line solution designed to enable stricken truck and van drivers to “quickly place an enquiry to repair or replace a tyre 24/7”. According to the company, Tyrenet.net will enable a driver to get back on the road in 90 minutes, halving experience of three-hour downtime.

Sumitomo-run Blackcircles ZA brings its brand of online tyre retail to South Africa

In August 2021, the people behind Blackcircles ZA announced that the company would tap into “the enormous growth of e-commerce in the country” by launching Blackcircles.co.za in South Africa. Four months later at the end of 2021, the site went live.

Autodoc breaks the billion-euro sales barrier

Autodoc, the Berlin-based online automotive parts retailer, just got an early Christmas present. The company, which was founded 13 years ago and now has around 4,600 employees in Germany, Poland, Ukraine, Moldova and Russia, reports that sales have exceeded the 1 billion euro mark this year.

Autodoc appoints new VP of brand management

Autodoc has appointed Moritz Diekmann as vice president brand management responsible for the development and implementation of then the online auto part retailer’s brand strategy. Within that role, the 49-year-old will develop the Autodoc brand as well as its own brands Ridex and Stark. e-jobsheet expands into France with CrossID partnership

French software and online applications company CrossID is integrating its point-of-sale (POS) and enterprise resource planning (ERP) technologies into CAM International’s TiDaeX online hub. Discount Tire buys Tire Rack

Discount Tire, a leading independent tyre and wheel retailer in the US is acquiring Tire Rack, which is known for its tyre tests and is a “consumer-direct source for tyres, wheels and performance accessories”. According to the company, the investment is part of Discount Tire’s vision of creating an “Easy, and Safe omnichannel, B2B, and fleet customer experience”. The transaction is expected to close on 31 December 2021.

Tyres-N-Parts. This familiar-sounding name belongs to a new B2B digital sales platform aimed at car dealerships and workshops as well as tyre dealers. The Michelin-backed venture is initially launching in Germany and aims to act as an online one-stop-shop for tyres and automotive spare parts. Tyres-N-Parts believes it will become “a model that will define the future of tyre and parts retailing.”
