A large number (46 per cent) of middle aged drivers admitted to using their cars for ‘me time’ to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. New consumer research from LeasePlan UK, one of the world’s largest vehicle management groups, shows Brits still have a love for driving and the freedom it gives them. The happiest of all drivers, still coming off the hype of passing their test, are the youngest motorists (26 per cent) compared to just 15 per cent of 45 to 54 year olds.

The number of teenagers who are not learning to drive has fallen by nearly 30 per cent in a decade – a record number, revealed by DVSA data. The cost of university, rising price of car insurance and changes in mobility, particularly car sharing, are all deciding factors in this decline. In a poll of British drivers, Birmingham has been voted the worst city to drive around in the UK, closely followed by London, with Bristol coming in third. The team at offer and discount website www.VoucherCodesPro.co.uk conducted the research as part of an ongoing study into Britons on the road. 2,240 British drivers and 18 and over, all of whom stated that they had been driving on UK roads for a minimum of two years, were quizzed about their driving habits and what they liked and disliked about driving.
