Pirelli celebrated 90 years of manufacturing at its UK headquarters in Burton upon Trent with its biggest Family Day celebration yet, held jointly with Burton Albion Football Club. The Family Day took place at the Pirelli Stadium, which is located a few hundred metres down the road from Pirelli’s UK headquarters in Burton. Pirelli UK Chairman and CEO, Dominic Sandivasci, along with Burton Albion FC Chairman, Ben Robinson, and club captain, Jake Buxton, opened the event.
Pirelli has appointed Jason Sugden commercial director for United Kingdom and Eire. Sugden joined Pirelli 31 years ago as part of the sales team, working his way up to sales director. In his new role, based in Burton-upon-Trent, he will be responsible for the company’s replacement commercial business.
Funds raised by football fans parking at the Pirelli site on Derby Road have helped to raise £3000 for The Brain Tumour Charity. Pirelli and Burton Albion FC have worked together for a number of years, and more recently supporters have been using the Pirelli car park – next to the Pirelli Stadium – on match days. In total, £2,500 has been raised by this activity. Pirelli itself donated an additional £500 to bring the overall amount donated to The Brain Tumour Charity to £3,000. This follows a similar donation in 2017, when £2,500 was raised.
Pirelli has named STS Tyre Pros Chester as its Performance Centre of the Year for the third year in a row. Each year, one of the network of 120 Pirelli Performance Centres is named PPC of the Year, after the top performing centres in the technical audit have a video mystery shop exercise and scored by an independent assessor.
Pirelli has renewed its sponsorship of the Village on the Curves at Le Mans for 2017, as part of the Italian tyre company’s relationship with Porsche Club GB. The Village on the Curve is a camping village located on the Porsche Curves at the French circuit. Porsche owners flock to the village to enjoy the views of the track and community atmosphere.
Pirelli has celebrated a “real achievement” after its Cinturato P1 Verde 195/65R15 91V model took pole position in the ADAC summer tyre test. The tyre beat 15 competitors, including Pirelli’s premium brand rivals, with the Cinturato P1 Verde commended on its balance, performance in the wet, and low noise. ADAC added that “the Pirelli tyre stands out with good wear characteristics,” which the tyre manufacturer describes as a key priority in the highly-competitive “city car” sector.
Pirelli has named STS Tyre Pros Chester as Pirelli Performance Centre of the Year. The newly rebranded STS Tyre Pros in Chester (formerly Central Tyre) achieved a near perfect score in its assessment, Pirelli said, presenting the centre with the award for the second consecutive year. Pirelli awards one of its 116 Performance Centres with the title annually, determining a winner by conducting a video mystery shop at the 10 top performing PPCs, which is then scored by an independent assessor.
Pirelli has unveiled the line-up for this year’s Pirelli Prestige & Performance Competition. The event, held at Blenheim Palace on 3 September, includes some of the greatest supercars of the last forty years. Aston Martin, Ferrari, Jaguar, McLaren, Mercedes-Benz, and Pagani will feature among 25 auto brands in eight different classes, while Lamborghini and Porsche have special celebration classes.
Pirelli has been homologated for the Jaguar F-Pace in a variety of sizes across P Zero and Scorpion Verde All Season. The P Zero has been homologated in sizes 265/40R22 106Y XL, 255/50R20 109W XL and 255/55R19 111W XL while the Scorpion Verde All Season has been homologated in size 235/65R18 110H XL.
Central Tyre, Chester has been names as the 2015/16 Pirelli Performance Centre of the year. Each year Pirelli awards one of its 107 Performance Centres with the PPC of the year title. To determine the winner 11 top performing PPCs had a video mystery shop exercise, scored by an independent assessor. Central Tyre, Chester achieved a near perfect score and were therefore recognised with the award.
Pirelli is now an original equipment provider of both summer and winter tyres to the BMW X5 M and X6 M. For the warmer months, Pirelli has 100 per cent OE on the 20-inch fitment, supplying its P Zero in size 285/40R20 104Y for the front wheel and 325/35R20 108Y for the rear. And when summer comes to an end, the Pirelli Scorpion Winter has been homologated for the sporty BMW SUVs in size 285/40R20 108V XL. The tyres’ status as products tailor-made for BMW is indicated by the presence of the (*) sidewall marking.
The latest depot to join the Pirelli Performance Centre group is Redpath Tyres’ South Gyle depot in Edinburgh. The centre gained Silver status in their recent technical audit. As a PPC, Redpath Tyres will receive ongoing support from Pirelli.
Bentley’s new SUV, the Bentayga, is capable of 301kph, making it the fastest SUV in the world, and the brand has chosen Pirelli’s P Zero as the original equipment tyre tasked with transmitting its power to the road. The car’s launch is accompanied by a video showing the Bentayga reaching its top speed on 22” Pirelli P Zero tyres (285/40ZR22 110Y XL. Pirelli is also supplying other 20” and 21” sizes for the Bentayga. Each tyre homologated for the luxury SUV features the B marking, indicating to dealers and end-users that the tyre was made especially for Bentley. The roadshows, held at Pirelli’s Carlisle factory and Burton headquarters, aimed to remind Pirelli staff and the wider motoring public about the importance of regular tyre tread depth checks.
