The three testing stations run by DEKRA in Portugal have now been joined by a further 11 following the acquisition of Portuguese testing organisation MasterTest. Giti Tire has launched the GT Radial WinterPro2, available for the 2017 winter season in the UK from exclusive PCR distributor Micheldever Tyre Services. The tyre showed wet performance gains while maintaining snow handling against its previous generation and four main competitors in independent tests by Dekra. Giti states that the tests, which were conducted early this year in Rovaniemi, Finland and Fontange, France, confirm the tyre was up to 10 per cent better in wet braking exercises and 2 per cent ahead in wet handling.

A replacement for the Michelin Pilot Super Sport will come to market next year. The new Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S will be available in Europe and the USA from January 2017; the Pilot Sport 4 S range will include 34 sizes for 19- and 20-inch rim diameters, a portfolio that Michelin says covers 92 per cent of the market. The tyre maker anticipates that the Pilot Sport 4 S will become “one of the most successful sports tyres ever designed by Michelin for the general public.”

Giti calls for industry-wide test standardisation

Giti reports it has completed an independent test with Dekra to evaluate the wet braking performance of its GT Radial SportActive tyre against several leading products as used in the original Autozeitung article. The firm also called for all “manufacturers, key associations and informed publications” to standardise testing in order to avoid grey areas.

In response to a recent, less than favourable third party tyre test, Giti Tire has run two sets of independent tests with Dekra and “a leading German tyre testing association” to verify the wet braking performance of its GT Radial Champiro FE1 tyre. In the case of the original test, the Nexen Nblue HD Plus was chosen as the comparison product based on the reported results, which had this tyre as the test winner. Therefore Giti ran its tests using the same Nexen product as a comparison.
