Goodyear releases 2021 corporate responsibility report

The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company has published its report on corporate responsibility performance for 2021. It comments that the report, which summarises the progress made toward achieving the company’s short- and long-term sustainability goals, further demonstrates its commitment to ethical and sustainable processes, materials and programmes.

Brembo celebrates 60th anniversary by planting forest

International News

Brake systems specialist Brembo is marking its 60th anniversary by planting a forest of more than 14,000 trees and donating them to employees around the world. The Brembo Forest will rise in Kenya, near Lake Victoria, where Brembo will work in partnership with web platform Treedom – the first system that allows trees to be planted remotely and their stories followed online.

GRI continues Green X Circle with tree planting project

Last Friday was an important day for GRI in regards to its environmental engagements – the Sri Lankan tyre maker launched its ‘Greening Our Planet’ project by planting 450 rubber trees at smallholder rubber farms in Moneragala District.

Hankook Tire in top 1% of EcoVadis CSR assessment

Business sustainability ratings provider EcoVadis has awarded Hankook Tire & Technology a platinum medal in its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) 2021 assessment. Platinum is, the tyre maker notes, a status bestowed upon companies whose performance is within the top one per cent of their industry sector. The current platinum medal is Hankook’s third back-to-back top-tier EcoVadis award; it earned the then highest gold award in 2019, followed by a platinum award upon the introduction of this recognition last year.

Tyre industry suppliers Nynas, Cabot and Evonik amongst top EcoVadis ratings

Upstream suppliers to the tyre manufacturing industry Nynas, Cabot and Evonik have received some of the top ratings in the 2021 EcoVadis auditing process. Specifically, these three firms all ranked in the top 1 per cent of their peers, earning platinum status. Meanwhile, carbon black supplier Birla Carbon received the EcoVadis’ gold accreditation.

Several tyre manufacturers amongst world’s best employers

Forbes and Statista have once again published their ranking of the world’s best employers. 160,000 employees of multinational or supra-regional companies from 58 countries were surveyed. The questions were about the extent to which respondents would be willing to recommend their employer and how satisfied they are with their employer in terms of its response to the COVID-19 pandemic, image, economic relevance, development of talent and in relation to Equality and social responsibility.

Brembo leads brake manufacturers in CDP A list

Following the news that three tyre manufacturers are listed on the 2020 CDP A list, three brake makers can also be found on the ranking – Brembo, Bosch and Continental. Brembo achieved the best result with As in both climate change and water security. Bosch scored an A in the climate change category.

Hankook wins platinum medal for CSR engagement, sustainability

Tyre manufacturer Hankook has received a platinum medal for its corporate social responsibility (CSR) engagement. The medal was awarded by the French rating agency Ecovadis in particular recognition of Hankook’s sustainability initiatives. The medal is awarded to companies in the top one per cent of their industry sector.

Bridgestone: 98% of tier 1 suppliers acknowledge procurement policy

The aim at Bridgestone Group is to use “100 per cent sustainable materials” by 2050 and beyond, and last year the tyre and rubber company introduced a new procurement policy to steer it towards this end. Under a partnership it began with CSR evaluation specialist EcoVadis in 2018, Bridgestone is now assessing its suppliers’ current sustainability practices and looking at what support may be needed to improve performance.

Dunlop’s global motorsport family unites to help Macmillan

The global Dunlop Motorsport organisation has taken part in the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning – dubbed Dunlop’s Fastest Coffee Morning in recognition of the participation of sporting stars – to raise funds and awareness for Macmillan Cancer Support, the brand’s corporate charity. 500,000th tree planted in Yokohama Forever Forest project

The Yokohama Rubber Co, Ltd, planted the 500,000th tree in its Forever Forest project on September 14. Begun in 2007, the latest landmark matches the tyre manufacturer’s goal. Chairman Tadanobu Nagumo and president Masataka Yamaishi joined others to celebrate planting of the commemorative tree at the Hiratsuka Factory. To build upon the project’s success to date, Yokohama Rubber said it would continue various related activities, including planting trees at new plants, providing saplings to various regions, promoting wild bird watching events, and monitoring CO2 absorption amounts. It added that it would also contribute to biodiversity conservation efforts within our business premises and in the surrounding communities.
