Cooper integration milestone – production begins in Goodyear plant

Half a year after acquiring Cooper Tire & Rubber, Goodyear reports reaching a “historic integration milestone.” It has begun producing Mickey Thompson ET Front tyres at its Innovation Center Manufacturing (ICM) facility in Akron, Ohio. These are the first Cooper tyres manufactured at a Goodyear facility in the USA.

Cooper Tire breaks ground on USA distribution centre

A ceremony was held on 18 August to mark the start of work on Cooper Tire’s newest regional distribution centre in the USA. The 1 million square foot (92,900m²) facility in Whiteland, Indiana is located near the tyre maker’s Franklin distribution centre and will replace the existing site once it commences operations early next year.

Cooper Tire expands Kruševac, Serbia factory by a third

Cooper Tire has invested in increasing production capacity at its Kruševac, Serbia tyre manufacturing plant. – Cooper Tire Serbia, a subsidiary of Cooper Tire & Rubber Company, is managing the US$55 million equipment upgrade and facility upgrade project. As a result of the investment, Cooper’s Kruševac facility will expand to more than 882,000 square feet, adding 118 new jobs.

Cooper restarts tyre production in Mexico

Operations at Cooper Tire & Rubber Company’s production facility in El Salto, Mexico resumed yesterday. Measures to protect the health and safety of employees, including social distancing, additional cleaning and disinfecting of facilities, as well as restricted visitor access, were put in place as employees returned to work. Cooper announced the plant’s temporary closure due to coronavirus impacts on 21 March.

Cooper now a virtual motorsport tyre supplier

The season start of many motorsport events has been delayed due to the coronavirus. Unable to get cars out on the track, US-based racecar driver development programme the Road to Indy Presented by Cooper Tires has gone virtual with a new five-race e-series. This e-series allows drivers from Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires, the Indy Pro 2000 Championship Presented by Cooper Tires and the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship to compete against one another using race simulators.

Cooper Tires extends North America production pause

Cooper Tire & Rubber Company announced on Friday that its tyre manufacturing plants in North America will remain shuttered for at least another two weeks. The company began closing down its Findlay, Clarksdale, Tupelo and Texarkana facilities in the USA and El Salto plant in Mexico on 21 March and intended to shut them down for two two three weeks. It says the production pause is being extended both to protect the health and safety of employees and as a response to decreased market demand. Cooper will continue to closely monitor the situation and adjust timing as necessary.

Cooper Tires suspends production in Europe

Cooper Tire & Rubber Company has confirmed the temporary shutdown of its tyre plants in Europe. Production at the facilities in Melksham, England and Kruševac, Serbia is being phased down this week. Both plants are expected to remain closed for at least three weeks.

Cooper Tires pausing production in North America, considering options in Europe

Market demand for tyres in some parts of the world is declining parallel to the spread of the coronavirus, and Cooper Tire & Rubber Company has responded by announcing a temporary shutdown of its tyre manufacturing facilities in the United States and Mexico. In a statement published on Saturday, the tyre maker said it is also “currently assessing plans” for its operations in Europe. Cooper Tires’ plants in China, which reopened several weeks ago and have continued to ramp up production since then, remain in operation.

Cooper Tires relaunches plant after acquiring Mexico JV

After purchasing its former partner’s 42 per cent share in the Corporación de Occidente S. A. de C.V. (COOCSA) joint venture in Mexico, Cooper Tire & Rubber halted passenger and commercial vehicle production at the site and re-hired the workforce there as employees of Cooper Tires. Brad Hughes, the tyre maker’s president and chief executive officer, reports that Cooper Tires is “now in the process of ramping production back up” at the site. Restructuring the plant will cost the company around US$10 million, an expense that will mainly occur in the first quarter of 2020.

Cooper Tire & Rubber Company has completed the acquisition its Mexico joint venture tyre manufacturing facility, Corporación de Occidente S. A. de C.V. (COOCSA). The agreement to increase its shareholding from 58 to 100 per cent was announced on 1 November 2019.

Cooper Tire & Rubber Company intends to completely acquire its joint venture tyre manufacturing facility in Mexico. It currently holds a 58 per cent share in Corporación de Occidente S.A. de C.V. (COOCSA), but has entered into a definitive agreement with partner Trabajadores Democraticos de Occidente S.C. de R.L. de C.V. (TRADOC) to acquire its 42 per cent stake. On Friday, a majority of TRADOC members voted in favour of the agreement.

Cooper investing US$4 million in Tupelo mixing

Cooper Tire & Rubber is investing a further $4 million into its plant in Tupelo, Mississippi. Local news sources, citing documents filed with the city said the money will be invested in upgrading the Tupelo plant’s mixing facilities.

Cooper Tire opens ‘central’ US warehouse

The million square foot (92,900 square metre), centrally-located warehouse that Cooper Tire & Rubber Company erected near three of its factories in the USA is now in operation. The new warehouse in Byhalia, Mississippi employs approximately 100 people and is Cooper’s largest distribution centre nationwide.
