Yokohama will present a host of high-octane entertainment in its debut as the official tyre partner of the Silverstone Classic this weekend. The event will also mark the celebration of Yokohama’s UK distributor, Yokohama HPT’s, 30th anniversary in the UK.
For the first time in the history of the Liqui Moly calendar, a casting was held for the car to be featured in the photographs. 330 vehicle enthusiasts applied with their four-wheel dreams for the sole place in the oil and additive specialist’s most popular promotional medium. The winner was Rudolf Polzer’s DeLorean DMC-12 – a car with cult status and a famous former owner.
Following the agreement signed last year, Vredestein is again the official tyre partner and main sponsor of the world-renowned Mille Miglia (1000 Miglia) rally currently taking place in Italy. The event has in turn provided the backdrop for the announcement of a new partnership between Vredestein and former Formula One racer Jochen Mass.
Yokohama has become the Official Tyre Partner for the Silverstone Classic festival for the first time in its 100-year history in an association the tyre manufacturer says reflects its rich motorsport heritage. In its new role, Yokohama becomes the title sponsor for several highlights, including the Yokohama Trophy for FIA Masters Historic Sports Cars and the Yokohama Silverstone Classic Supercar Track Parade and Paddock Display. The company will present the Yokohama Silverstone Classic Club Car of the Show Award.
Omni United has launched the Dimax Classic under its expanding Radar Tyres flagship brand. The Dimax Classic is a sport touring tyre specially developed for classic and vintage cars. The tyre is currently available in four sizes and six SKUs with rim diameters ranging from 12” to 15” sizes, designed for many popular classic and vintage vehicles.

Bridgestone has kitted out the Jaguar XJ220 with its first now set of tyres for a decade, with the results brought to life in a feature video with the Don Law team. The project was first announced in September; Bridgestone has used the latest technology to produce the tyres, craved by the owners of these classic cars for some years. A new Dunlop tyre aimed at classic car drivers comes to market next month. The Dunlop Sport Classic is said to be optimised for high performance vehicles of the 60s, 70s and 80s, and offers a classic look and feel combined with modern handling and braking performance.
The Easter holidays mark a time when vehicles popular in the summer, such as caravans, classic cars, horseboxes, and motorhomes, return to the roads from winter storage. Due to such a long period off the road, it is necessary to ensure their roadworthiness, and TyreSafe, the UK’s tyre safety charity, is appealing to all owners to make sure checking the rubber is part of this process before hitting the road for the 2017 season. Bridgestone introduced its project to produce current- technology tyres for the Jaguar XJ220; a development it says has been craved by the classic car’s owners for some years. Four months, 17 specs and hundreds of laps later, the prototypes have been produced, evaluated, and tested, and the final tyre has been approved by Bridgestone engineers and XJ220 aficionado Justin Law, who participated in the project.
On Saturday, 12 November a recently restored special red 1969 Morris Mini Super Deluxe will be auctioned at the Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show. The one family owned classic, with 33,000 miles on the clock, will be finding a new home through Silverstone Auctions NEC Classic Motor Show Sale with all proceeds going directly to Prostate Cancer UK.
Jaguar Classic has announced a partnership with Pirelli to develop a new tyre package for the classic XJ220 sports car. Featuring a bespoke P Zero design the tyre maintains the look of the original P Zero, but is updated using Pirelli’s latest compounds and technologies. This includes internal damping within the tyre to even out shocks, lessen noise, and provide more precise control while increasing comfort. Pirelli’s P Zero ultra-high performance range continues to be a part of top level motorsport, like Formula One and GT racing, for which the XJ220 concept was originally developed.
Mahle has been awarded the 2016 “RetroClassicsCultur” award. Professor Pfeiffer, head of a 20 member jury, presented the company with the award for special services to the preservation of automotive cultural heritage.
Michelin is participating as a partner to the Le Mans Classic, a biennial event that attracts more than 110,000 historic motorsport and classic car fans and gets underway today at the Circuit de la Sarthe in France. During the four-day event, the tyre maker will present its latest historic motorsport and classic car tyre collection, as well as provide advice to owners of the participating cars, a collection of vehicles that includes numerous cars Michelin has equipped for the Le Mans 24 Hours endurance race over the years.
