Arla extends Bridgestone tyre contract into UK market

Arla Foods, Scandinavia’s largest dairy producer, recently signed a renewed tyre management agreement with Bridgestone covering its fleets in Denmark and Sweden, and, for the first time, the agreement has been extended to include the United Kingdom. The three-year agreement, which came into effect on April 1, 2011, is based on a cost-per-kilometre package that applied to around 2,000 Arla milk tankers and dairy distribution trucks in the three countries. Bridgestone service is delivered according to its ‘Total Fleet Management’ approach, intended to help fleet operators raise vehicle productivity by optimising tyre performance over the whole tyre lifecycle.

Bridgestone Bikers Club riding for Japan

Motorcyclists looking to combine a day out with helping a good cause may be interested in an event organised by the Bridgestone Biker’s Club. Scheduled for Sunday June 5, the biker meet will start from Wheelhouse Tyres in Birmingham; money raised will used to help victims of Japan’s recent earthquake and tsunami.

Firestone OE for US Fiat 500

Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations has announced another original equipment deal for its Firestone brand. The manufacturer will supply Firehawk GT all-season tyres in size 185/55R15 82H to certain Fiat 500 models. In announcing the tyre’s OE supply, Bridgestone comments that the Firestone Firehawk GT is sport-performance tyre engineered to provide a blend of sporty handling while also offering practical all-season traction capability in many different driving conditions.

Transense launches iProbe tyre inspection tool

Transense Technologies plc has launched its iProbe multi-function RFID/TPMS tyre inspection tool into the market. Developed by its subsidiary Translogik and following consultation with potential customers, the iProbe provides wireless measurement of tread depth, tyre temperature and tyre pressure combined with integrated RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) tag and TPMS (Temperature Pressure Monitoring System) sensor reading capabilities.

Bridgestone’s van tyre line-up: Lightening the load

Key requirements of van tyre users are durability, economy and good performance, particularly in the wet. Bridgestone aims to meet these with its van tyre range. The tyre maker notes that long distances frequently come with the territory for the average commercial van driver, and for businesses and individuals who are often on the road, going the distance with long-haul journeys, it recommends the Duravis R410. This is, Bridgestone comments, a durable, high mileage tyre, designed for withstanding heavy use and daily deliveries at highway speeds.

Chrysler OE for Firestone Firehawk GT Pursuit

Bridgestone Americas reports the selection of the Firestone Firehawk GT Pursuit tyre as an original equipment fitment for the ready-for-duty 2011 Dodge Charger Pursuit. The Firehawk GT Pursuit is specifically designed for law enforcement use and is said to combine wet and dry handling with an emphasis on quick steering response. It will be fitted to the Dodge Charger Pursuit in size P225/60R18W.

Stapleton’s invests to supply the right van tyre

Long established as a leading UK tyre distributor, and named Tyre Wholesaler of the Year at the NTDA Tyre and Fast Fit Awards 2010, Stapleton’s reports it has continued to place an emphasis on customer needs in 2011. This emphasis includes a focus on the company’s product portfolio and in ensuring the needs of both large and small van operators are catered for. The result, says Stapleton’s, is an even broader range that encompasses all van tyre sizes – including premium brands as well as a comprehensive range of mid-price and budget products. The company plans to continue developing its van tyre sector further still throughout the remainder of 2011 in line with its overriding ‘working for the customer’ philosophy.

Hungarian Bandag franchisee ‘strengthens’ Bridgestone’s fleet package

On 14th April the new Hungarian Bandag franchise dealership, 5-Let Ltd., inaugurated its new retreading facility. Established with an investment of 2 million euros, the plant in the town of Mezőszilas began production on March 30 and is expected to produce 2,500 retreads this year; this number should double by 2013.

Bridgestone to provide asymmetric rear slicks at Portugal MotoGP

The Portuguese Grand Prix represents the third round of the MotoGP season this year, with the event moved to 1 May from its usual October slot following heavy rain in 2010’s GP. With clear skies, Bridgetsone will be able to make use of its asymmetric rear slick tyres, which have been selected because of the imbalanced demands of the circuit. There are nine right-handed corners and only four lefts, and generally the right-handers are faster and generate higher loads, resulting in markedly higher tyre temperatures in the right shoulders of the tyres, especially the rears, as director of Motorsport Tyre Development Hirohide Hamashima explained.

Team programmer to unicycle for Cancer Research

Rob Northcott, head programmer at Team Systems, will be competing in the Dartmoor Cycle 2011 event on 22 May in support of Cancer Research UK. The event is organised by the Firefighters Fighting Cancer campaign and Northcott will be taking part in support of his colleague Matt Bateman, customer support manager at Team who is seriously ill with Hodgkins Lymphona in Derriford Hospital, Plymouth and is currently receiving chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant.

Bridgestone alters senior management responsibilities

Bridgestone has announced the approval by its board of directors of three vice presidents’ changes of position and responsibilities. Yoshiyuki Morimoto is now responsible solely for products development in his senior officer role, with Tatsuro Hamada taking over responsibility for tyre research and material development. Hamada’s previous position as internal manufacturing management officer has been transferred to Masahito Tsuji, who has added this responsibility to his role as procurement officer.

Citroën DS3 Racing rolls out on Bridgestone Potenza RE050A

Bridgestone has announced that Citroën has selected its Potenza RE050A sports tyre for the Citroën DS3 Racing, Citroën’s hot hatch in the premium DS line. The 215/40R18 tyre is now fitted on all Citroën DS3 Racing production cars. The ultra-high-performance Potenza RE050A is designed to handle the power output of an over 200 hp turbo-charged engine like this Citroën DS3 Racing. It has an asymmetric pattern designed for a dynamic balanced performance with sharp response, precise steering and high-level wet safety.

New earthmover tyre shortage predicted

Just a few years since the last earthmover tyre shortage peaked industry sources are predicting another squeeze on the production of some of the biggest tyres there are. Last time the problem centred on simple supply and demand, but since then the likes of Michelin and Bridgestone have invested hundreds of millions investing in production. This time the root causes seem to be the delay between investment and construction of new capacity and continuing demand, complicated by the earthquake in Japan.

Bridgestone donates Australian factory land to local community

A portion of the land from Bridgestone Australia’s former manufacturing site in Salisbury, Adelaide has been donated to the local council for community use. The land was officially donated to the City of Salisbury at a ceremony held on April 12.
