Hankook has been instrumental in setting a new Guinness World Records title with Challenge4 record-breaking driver Rainer Zietlow, in conquering the South American Andes. The all-electric vehicle reached a height of 5,816 metres up the Uturuncu volcano, which has two peaks reaching 6,008 and 5,930 metres. Zietlow set the new record on Hankook’s new all-terrain tyre, the Dynapro AT2.
An opening ceremony took place on 25 May for the largest proving ground in Asia, Hankook Technoring. Hankook Tire & Technology says the facility in Taean, South Korea will serve as a state-of-the-art research and development centre for its “most advanced products to come.”

Tyre maker Hankook has released its results for the 2021 financial year. The company achieved global sales of KRW 7.142 trillion (£4.4 billion), 10.7 per cent higher than in 2020, and a year-on-year increase in operating profit of 2.2 per cent to KRW 641 billion (£395.1 million). Momentum slowed in the second half of the year as the global economy collectively tackled issues such as global supply chain disruption, semiconductor shortage and rising raw materials costs.

Guinness World Records has acknowledged the Hankook Tire-supported ‘Volkswagen ID.4: Great Roadshow through the U.S.’ as the longest continuous journey by an electric vehicle (non-solar) in a single country. The 35,000-mile trip took place between 13 July and 18 October. The team’s VW ID.4 visited all 48 contiguous US states in all-electric mode, thereby breaking the previous record that was set in 2019.
Hankook Tire is adding new 18- and 19-inch sizes to its Kinergy AS ev range. The new dimensions in this expanded line-up, which now covers 16- to 19-inch fitments, will initially be available only in South Korea but will launch in other markets at a later date.
Hankook Tire’s 2021 Q2 financial results show consolidated global sales of KRW 1.806 trillion (EUR 1,336 million) and an operating profit reaching KRW 187 billion (EUR 138 million). Sales and operating profit rose 32.4 per cent and 167.1 per cent YoY and 11.7 per cent and 0.6 per cent QoQ respectively. In particular, sales of both original equipment (OE) tyres and replacement (RE) tyres grew compared to the same period last year. In addition, global sales of 18 inches and higher tyres accounted for 38 per cent of total passenger car and light truck tyre sales, a YoY increase of 5.4 percentage points.
Hankook Tire is introducing an ESG (Environment, Social, Governance) committee to strengthen its Board of Directors’ responsibility and activities in the area of sustainable management. The ESG committee will be responsible for consulting, deliberating, and recommending directions regarding environmental, social and governance businesses.
Hankook Tire confirms that its tyres will be original equipment on Volkswagen’s first all-electric SUV, the ID.4. The tyre maker will supply its Hankook Ventus S1 evo 3 ev in numerous sizes from the vehicle’s market launch. OEM fitment on the ID.4 follows the pairing of prototype Hankook Ventus S1 evo 3 ev tyres with the VW study ID. Crozz, the design of which the new ID.4 is based on.

In April, Goodyear shared that the new Audi e-tron GT is available factory-fitted with a 21-inch version of its Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5. Hankook Tire reports it is also supplying original equipment tyres to Audi’s electric performance saloon; the Hankook Ventus S1 evo 3 ev will be fitted to the e-tron GT in size 225/55R19 XL 103Y on the front axle and 275/45R19 XL 108Y on the rear.
