Giti Tire appoints senior manager automotive engineering Europe OE

Giti Tire has appointed Lars Ohnsorge as senior manager automotive engineering Europe OE. The company said the appointment of the experienced tyre professional would further strengthen its original equipment operations, following the recruitment of Nicolas Kluson as key account manager Europe OE in April, with both providing in-depth technical support and direction from the company’s European R&D Center in Hannover, Germany. Giti said its new OE team will immediately focus on the manufacturer’s existing OE relationships with BMW Group, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA), VW Group (Audi, Seat, Skoda, VW) and VW Commercial Vehicles as well as introduce the Giti brand and business philosophy to other key vehicle manufacturers.

GT Radial Maxmiler AllSeason2 launched with A-grade wet braking

Giti Tire has launched the new GT Radial Maxmiler AllSeason2 across Europe. The next generation van tyre achieves A-grade wet braking on the EU tyre label and is supplied in bigger sizes and higher speed ratings to meet the demands of the latest vehicle rollouts. The next generation update on the brand’s original all-season tyre for van and light truck markets, wet braking has been enhanced by more than 15 per cent, while wet handling is improved by 20 per cent over the predecessor.

Two big names absent from Agritechnica exhibitor list

Following Covid-related cancellations in 2021 and 2022, the Agritechnica show returns later this year. The Hannover, Germany-based exhibition bills itself as the “world’s leading trade fair for agricultural machinery,” and in 2023 expects to welcome more than 2,600 exhibitors, including many from the tyre industry. But two well-known manufacturers of agricultural tyres will be absent.

New GT Radial dual approach to electric vehicle tyres “a game changer”

GT Radial has unveiled its “dual approach” strategy to the electric vehicle tyre market. The headline news is that the brand’s manufacturer Giti Tire has produced an initial three 18-20” sizes of the specialist GT Radial SportActive 2 EV tyre, with the 19 and 20-inch variations achieving the top AAA label rating. GT Radial has also introduced 16 “EV Ready” tyres in the brand’s popular SportActive 2 and FE2 portfolios, demonstrating the manufacturer’s strategy to supply both specialist EV tyres and products suitable for EVs and internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. Giti’s European managing director - product technology, Stefan Fischer explains why the tyre manufacturer views this approach as “a game changer”.

Giti Tire, WS Racing, Sparco set to sparkle at Nürburgring 24-hour race

Giti Tire has described its visit to the 51st ADAC TotalEnergies 24-hour Nürburgring race as “a huge weekend” for its motorsport division. The manufacturer is supporting its all-female racing team again and will ramp up its new brand building partnership with Sparco. This means that as well as participating in the event, Giti will have its broadest selection of marketing activities at the event. Stefan Brohs, marketing director - Europe for Giti Tire, promises a “full communication strategy” designed to launch the “Giti – Powered by Sparco” slogan for in-person and online viewers.

Award, 2023 launch for Nexen Roadian HTX 2

The Nexen Roadian HTX 2 is an awardee at the iF Design Awards 2023, having gained an accolade in the product design category. This honour for the HTX 2 precedes the tyre’s launch in European markets, which will take place during the course of this year. The HTX 2 will apparently complement the existing HTX range at first, however Nexen Tire has not yet released details about the launch range.

Germany’s Chancellor visits Continental tyre plant

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz carved a tyre prototype and inspected a truck & bus tyre retreading facility during his visit to Continental’s Hannover-Stöcken site yesterday. Accompanied by Dr Ariane Reinhart and Christian Kötz, Scholz also used the event as an opportunity to talk about carbon neutrality just two days after his government enforced the deactivation of Germany’s last three CO2-free nuclear power plants.

Bosch develops fully automated battery-discharging plant

Bosch estimates that electric vehicles will account for around 70 per cent of Europe's newly registered passenger cars by 2030. And the growing electric v vehicle parc means increasing demand for both new batteries and for the recycled raw materials they contain, such as lithium, cobalt, and nickel. In response, Bosch has developed new machinery, equipment and software for this purpose. Specifically, Bosch subsidiary Bosch Rexroth is supplying Battery Lifecycle Company, a joint venture between Remondis subsidiary TSR Recycling and Rhenus Automotive, with Europe’s first fully automated system for discharging and disassembling battery modules.

LAMMA the “first stop” for Agritechnica

Giti Tire extends OE fitment sizes on VW Crafter

Following previous original equipment tyre deals with Volkswagen, Giti Tire has secured further OE fitment sizes on the award-winning VW Crafter. The manufacturer’s GitiVanHD1 is now specified in 235/65 R16 C115/113R and 205/75 R16 C113/111R for new Crafters coming off production lines. Giti’s first partnership on the VW van began in April 2020, with the 205/70R17 C115/113R. It was the Giti brand’s first European light commercial vehicle OE contract.

GitiWinterW2 range rises to 39 sizes, covering 90% targeted European demand

Giti Tire has extended its GitiWinterW2 range to 39 sizes between 15 and 19 inches, including the SUV variant of the winter tyre. The pattern now covers 90 per cent of targeted winter market demand throughout Europe. The smallest size, 175/65R15 is designed for cars such as the Fiat 500, Mini and Toyota Yaris, while the 255/50R19 fits such models as the Audi Q4, BMW X5 and X6, Mercedes GLC, Skoda Enyaq iV and VW ID.4 and ID.5. Originally launched in August 2021 in 13 core sizes, Giti says the second iteration of the product delivers improved dry dynamics, wet braking and aquaplaning resistance, while maintaining the first generation’s snow and ice grip and traction.
