James Stopps joins PCL as Area Sales Manager
Pneumatic Components Ltd (PCL) has appointed James Stopps to the position of Area Sales Manager in charge of its South region. Stopps joins the company from consumables and fasteners supplier Würth UK Ltd, where he managed a team of 12 sales consultants and over 1,800 accounts for the automotive division, growing the area by over 20 per cent.

The Milton Keynes-based business now runs the tyre and wheel combination on five of its six Kubota ZD 1211 zero-turn mowers and plans to upgrade the remaining machine in the near future.

Continental has acquired EMT s.r.o., a mould manufacturing specialist based in Puchov, Slovakia. The tyre maker and automotive technology company obtained all shares in its long-standing supplier on 2 April 2024 after entering into an agreement with EMT’s shareholders, including majority shareholder Dynamic Design Europe. Beyond confirming the retention of all 107 EMT employees, Continental has not disclosed details of the agreement.

Goodyear’s Eagle F1 SuperSport R and SuperSport RS range-topping UUHP tyres have been homologated for the new Porsche 911 GT3 RS supercar. Specially tuned fitments of each tyre will carry the N0 code that indicates Porsche original equipment tyres. Goodyear says the tyres push “the limits of performance from a fully road-legal tyre.” Johannes Moll, managing director OE consumer, Goodyear EMEA said that the tyres “enhance the performance and handling characteristics of the most specialist machinery on the roads today.

On 27 March 2024, Shen Jinrong, chairman of ZC Rubber, expressed a cautiously optimistic attitude towards the Chinese tyre industry at the 2024 China Rubber Conference, commenting: “For the Chinese tyre industry, the phenomenon of multiple positive factors coexisting at the same time is unlikely to reappear in 2024. Most of the positive factors will turn negative or slow down or decrease, and the tyre industry cycle has reached a high point. The contradiction of overcapacity in the industry will become increasingly prominent, and we should take measures to deal with it.”

Electric vehicle (EV) owners are reporting faster tyre wear rates than they experience on internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. And that’s leading to a widening satisfaction gap between original equipment tyres and electric vehicles (EVs) and ICEs, according to the J.D. Power 2024 U.S. Original Equipment Tire Customer Satisfaction Study, released at the end of March. The study shows that EV owners have similar expectations of tyre wear as do owners of ICEs, despite EV tyres wearing faster due to greater vehicle weight and higher torque.
