Pirelli extends GT Cup Championship exclusive tyre supply deal to 2028
Pirelli and Bute Motorsport have extended the tyre manufacturer’s exclusive sole tyre supply and sponsorship agreement with the GT Cup Championship. Pirelli will remain the series’ sole supplier until 2028. The Italian tyre manufacturer has supported Bute Motorsport and the GT Cup Championship for many years, stating that the renewed collaboration solidifies the commitment from both parties to deliver high-performance racing experiences, fostering further innovation in motorsport.

Yokohama has become the official rear tyre supplier for the British Trials and Rally Drivers Association (BTRDA) Sporting Trials series. The manufacturer will supply the G.T. Special Classic Y350 in size 165/80R15 to competitors; Yokohama says the tyre blends “vintage appearance with cutting-edge tyre technologies.” Yokohama calls the series “a unique test of driver control, with entrants having to perfect a challenging mix of momentum, throttle control and choice of driving line.”

Pirelli is celebrating a successful 2023 season in European rally after Mads Ostberg claimed victory in Hungary in his Citroen C3, shod with Scorpion rally tyres. Pirelli is the only tyre-maker of the four suppliers to the European Rally Championship to have seen victories claimed on all surfaces through the season, with its runners achieving podium finishes at every meeting. Hayden Paddon had already claimed the title with two races to spare on Pirelli rubber. 55 of 106 special stages were also won on Pirelli tyres.

Continental Tyres is supporting “global nomad” Bobby Bolton in his attempt to drive his converted MAN truck 10,000 miles from the UK to Australia. Conti has fitted four off-road optimised HCS tyres to the truck and installed the ContiPressureCheck tyre pressure monitoring system and ContiConnect digital tyre management system, enabling remote monitoring of temperatures and pressures. Bolton will travel through more than 25 countries with his Labrador, Red, on their journey. Bolton has documented on his social media channels the preparation of his 18-tonne, four-wheel-drive overland-style truck for the hostile terrain it will encounter on the journey south. The travellers will use the load bed of the former water bowser as accommodation while on the road.

Walkenhorst Motorsport’s Advan-liveried #34 BMW M4 GT3 running on Yokohama’s Advan A005 (dry) and A006 (wet) tyres claimed first place in Round 8 of the 2023 Nürburgring Endurance Series (NLS) on 23 September. Driven by Christian Krognes and Jakub Giermaziak, the team qualified fifth and took the lead around the race’s midpoint, widening the gap with the rest of the field before taking the checkered flag more than two minutes ahead of the second-place car.

There was a double win for Nicolò Bulega (Aruba.it Racing WorldSSP Team) with the WorldSSP Championship title becoming closer. The WorldSSP300 victory went to Jeffrey Buis (MTM Kawasaki), who also claimed first place in the 300 standings. Freddie Lindgren took advantage of World championship leader Bartosz Zmarzlik’s absence from the FIM Speedway GP of Denmark to close the gap on the Polish rider going into the last Grand Prix of the 2023 season. NGK-sponsored Lindgren finished second behind Denmark’s Leon Madsen after three-time World champion Zmarzlik was disqualified from the event and fined €600 having been “found to be wearing a race suit which did not conform to the FIM Speedway Grand Prix World Championship Regulations 2023 during the qualifying practice and the starting number selection for the meeting.”

Bryce Menzies has won the Baja 400 for the third consecutive year in his Toyo Tires equipped Trophy Truck. Menzies previously claimed the Baja 500 and Mexican 1000 Races in 2023. Toyo-equipped trucks won all three trophy truck classes: Gustavo Vildósola Sr secured another victory in the Trophy Truck Legends class, while Jason McNeil claimed top spot in the Trophy Truck Spec class. These successes translate into a commanding lead in championship points across all three Trophy Truck categories this season. Each driver is now poised to begin the upcoming SCORE Baja 1000 race in November from pole position.

YART Yamaha Official EWC Team won the 2023 FIM Endurance World Championship (EWC) title on Bridgestone Battlax tyres at Circuit Paul Ricard (16-17 September), Le Castellet, France. It is the fourth time and the third consecutive year that a team using Bridgestone’s flagship motorcycle tyres has won the EWC title. The brand has been supplying the tyres, which are designed to provide high grip, durability and comfort handling, to teams in the EWC series since 2017. YART Yamaha Official EWC Team, one of the three teams supported by Bridgestone, finished second in the opening race and first in the second race of the series, concluding the series with fourth place in the Bol dOr 24-hour endurance race.

Hankook’s newest Ventus Race tyre, the C54 H, a slightly lighter model than its predecessor, made its debut at the Hankook 24H Barcelona. The European finale of the 24H Series powered by Hankook proved a fitting challenge for the new tyre, subjecting it to high levels of stress on the coarse asphalt and unique kerbs of the Formula 1 hosting circuit in Catalonia. Hankook says the new Ventus Race passed these tests with flying colours, helping the overall winner to set a new record distance of 725 laps.

Giti-sponsored Truck Team Holten’s modified Mercedes 1622 800HP finished in fourth place in the Rallye Breslau while completing its fourth consecutive year on a set of Giti tyres. The Netherlands-based team entered two vehicles in the Cross Country Trucks category, with the Mercedes team recording five top three finishes in a field of 10 while the Scania 4x4 630 started well, completing the prologue and the first two legs before having to withdraw with significant engine damage. Both vehicles fit the Giti GAO897 mixed service tyre in size 14.00R20. The tyre is designed to work across a wide range of air pressures to optimise performance in different conditions and in temperatures ranging from 55˚C to a minimum of -40˚C.
