Headcount reduction at Apollo Vredestein’s Enschede plant closer to 900

According to the Federation of Dutch Trade Unions (FNV), Apollo Vredestein will stop employing temp workers hired through agencies at its Enschede plant from April 2020. This means that almost 150 temporary jobs will disappear in addition to the approximately 750 permanent jobs that the tyre maker plans to shed. A representative from the union told Tyrepress.com that all of the positions earmarked to go are production-related jobs.

The FNV reports that Apollo Vredestein employs some 1,200 people at its Enschede site, a figure which suggests the tyre maker’s own recent estimate of 1,500 people includes temporary workers. The trade union says that approximately 450 employees will remain at the restructured Enschede factory after the layoffs.
