CEAT inaugurates Tamil Nadu Factory

In mid-February CEAT inaugurated its new Sriperumbudur, Chennai factory in Tamil Nadu region of India.

Several news sources report that CEAT managing director Anant Goenka told local media that the new plant will roll out about 28,000 passenger car tyres and 2,500 motorcycle tyres per day. The factory is expected to reach full capacity, which will be aimed at global export markets, in two years.

The company plans to invest US$561.8 million in the plant in phases over the next 10 years. A reported $196.3 million has been invested so far.

The site is reportedly has enough space for further expansion options including a potential truck tyre production facility.

CEAT joins MRF, Apollo, JK Tyres and Michelin with tyre-making facilities in Tamil Nadu. The state accounts for 40 per cent of the country’s tyre production.
