Yokohama presents classic tyre range at Autosport

Paddy Hopkirk poses with a Yokohama-shod replica of the Mini Cooper S that he drove to victory in the 1964 Monte Carlo Rally

Visitors to Autosport International earlier this month were able to take a good look at the recently launched range of Yokohama tyres for classic cars. Some even caught a glimpse of rally legend Paddy Hopkirk at the Yokohama stand.

During his visit, Hopkirk was joined by a replica of the Mini Cooper S he drove to victory in the 1964 Monte Carlo Rally. The Mini was shod with Yokohama Advan HF Type-D A008 tyres. Cooper S models of the day are happy wearing the Yokohama tyre in size 165/70 R10, but drivers of other classic vehicles can choose from a range of 10- to 15-inch sizes.

Yokohama says interest in classic cars is reaching record levels, and for this reason, it wants to provide drivers of these vehicles with tyres that incorporate modern technology and performance while retaining the classic style and design from the 1960s and beyond.

“While we continue to focus much of our efforts and attention on the cars of today and tomorrow, we’re equally proud to provide the many passionate owners and enthusiasts of classic cars with our dedicated range of hobby tyres which complement their vehicles perfectly,” explains David Seward, managing director, Yokohama HPT. “Classic tyres form an important element of our comprehensive premium tyre strategy to deliver the very best products for race, road and off-road vehicles, and we look forward to showcasing these further throughout 2020.”

The current Yokohama hobby tyre range for the UK includes four patterns. In addition to the A008, the brand offers the new 16-inch Advan A008P, which was originally developed as the original equipment tyre for Porsche 911 Carrera Turbo (930), Carrera 2, Carrera 4 models. This is joined by the GT Special (Y350), which is available in 14- and 15-inch sizes in period correct 80 profile, as well as the classic A539 pattern in 12- to 14-inch sizes.

Yokohama will continue the promotion of its hobby tyre range at various events during 2020 including at the Silverstone Classic, Europe’s biggest classic motor racing festival, where it will return once again as the official tyre partner.
