Trademark infringement: Bridgestone wins another case in China

Bridgestone Corporation has announced another favourable ruling regarding a trademark infringement in China. This particular case involves Chinese tyre maker Liangshan Water Margin Tire Co., Ltd. (Water Margin).

In June 2018, Bridgestone filed a lawsuit against Water Margin, claiming that the latter firm’s tyre manufacturing and sales activities under the Fulisitong brand infringed its trademark rights by utilising a brand mark that resembled Bridgestone registered trademarks. The Suzhou Intellectual Property Court found in favour of Bridgestone, and in May 2019 ordered Water Margin to cease manufacturing and sales activities that violate the Japanese company’s trademark rights. Water Margin was also ordered to pay damages of approximately RMB 3.3 million (£366,000).
