Members of the automotive media – including players from Tyrepress.com – have won the Trico Cup for the first time after a magnificent 4-3 comeback against Trico.

Held at The Trico Stadium, home of Redditch United Football Club, Trico raced into a 2-0 lead, thanks to goals from Mason Boyce and Sam Blunsden; however, the automotive media brought the scoreline back to parity by half-time, after goals from Tom Henman and Nathan Barak.

Quickly into the second-half, with Mason, a Redditch United prospect, switching allegiance to a tiring automotive media team, the youngster scored a 20-yard thunderbolt to put his new side into the lead; however, Trico dug deep and equalised shortly after, thanks to Bolan Jepmond-Senior.

The automotive media, and Mason in particular, would have the last word, however, as he slotted in the winner late on, sparking wild celebrations. Despite relentless pressure and a host of missed opportunities towards the end of the 90 minutes, the automotive media held on to claim its first Trico Cup.

Winning captain, The Garage’s Stuart Woolley, lofted the trophy and celebrated with his team-mates after an energy-sapping performance.

Woolley said: “I couldn’t be prouder of the team; the players dug in and while we rode our luck at times, we took our opportunities and defended magnificently. Fair play to Trico, they pushed us hard and we had to sort ourselves out after a sluggish start, but I am delighted to have wrestled the trophy away from them – I’m looking forward to defending our title next year!”

Opposition skipper, Trico senior brand and product manager, Sam Robinson, said: “Naturally, I’m disappointed to have lost, but many congratulations to our media colleagues. We couldn’t take our chances when they came – the opposition did – so we’ll have to start our training even earlier next year to ensure we win back the trophy.”

Sam also paid tribute to Tockwith Motorsports and Redditch United Football Club for contributing to a fantastic day: “Having the Trico cars and their respective drivers, Moh Ritson, Sarah Moore and Jemma Moore, all of whom played in the match, made a huge difference. The cars were an attraction for the players and supporters, many of whom I spotted having their photos taken with them. In addition, thank you to everyone at Redditch United for being superb hosts and allowing us the full use of the stadium – we look forward to returning in 2020.”
