Feel safe, ride safe with Philips X-tremeVision moto supporting Road Safety Week

This Road Safety Week (19-25 November) is focusing on bikers and encouraging everyone to be Bike Smart.

Statistics show that motorcyclists are 38 times more likely to be killed in a crash than car occupants per mile ridden and motorcyclists comprise the largest proportion (25 per cent) of road crash admissions to trauma centres.

Headlights are one of the most important safety features on a motorcycle. As well as illuminating the road ahead, the rider is making themselves visible to other drivers on the road, especially at night. Drivers often don’t see bikes until it’s too late.

The best way to ensure visibility on the road is to choose the best-performing headlight bulb available.

For maximum safety and performance, Philips X-tremeVision moto bulbs are engineered with state-of-the-art technology to offer up to 130% more brightness, compared to the minimum legal standard, for riders- thanks to improved filament geometry and the use of a unique gas composition.

The bulbs are filled with a unique gas composition that reduces the deterioration of the lamp’s filament, which improves its durability and therefore optimises the lamp’s lifetime.

Philips halogen bulbs are made of quartz-glass. UV-quartz glass is stronger than hard glass and highly resistant to temperature extremes and vibrations, which eliminates the risk of explosion. So Philips quartz-glass lamps (filament 2 650ºC and glass 800ºC) are able to withstand severe thermal shock. With the capability of increased pressure inside a UV-quartz glass lamp, it allows to produce a more powerful light. And more powerful light means an enhanced driving experience, however dark the road.

Lumileds’ UK business development manager, Richard Armstrong commented: “Lumileds is proud to be backing national Road Safety Week. The speeds motorcycles can travel are equal to those of cars and yet motorcycle riders do not have equal protection in the event of a crash, such as air bags or side-impact bars, exposing them to the full force of impact. Raising awareness of best practice for riders and drivers alike, and therefore limiting motorcycle crashes, is critical to saving lives on UK roads.

“For maximum safety the Philips X-tremeVision motor headlighting range is engineered with state-of-the-art technology, offering maximum performance and a high level of safety on the road. Upgrading your motorbike’s headlamp is a good idea especially at this time of the year in order to improve the brightness of the headlamps – be seen and be safe.”
