Drivers to spend £45 million on air con services this summer

A new report predicts that drivers in the UK will spend over £45 million on air conditioning services this summer due to the impending heatwave. Based on internal garage and consumer data, the marketplace has predicted that there will be over 1 million air con units serviced in total in the months of June, July and August, having already seen a 2500 per cent increase in requests in May compared to April.

WhoCanFixMyCar.com analysed its internal garage and consumer data over the past year and forecast a considerable increase in demand for air conditioning services this summer due to the impending heatwave, where the Met Office predicts June, July and August to be hotter than average this year.

In May 2018 alone, circa 350,000 drivers nationwide had an aircon re-gas performed on their cars – the most common aircon service. Taking the increase in demand into account, it is anticipated that a further 1 million drivers will need an aircon re-gas performed this summer.

The UK has experienced multiple heatwaves over the past month, which WhoCanFixMyCar.com believes has prompted drivers to get their air conditioning units serviced.

The average quote for an aircon re-gas on WhoCanFixMyCar.com last month was £57 compared to £42 last May. That represents a 26 per cent increase, although quotes are expected to increase as gas prices soar. Due to new regulations on the gas that is used in the air conditioning systems, those with newer cars could expect to pay between £150 and £300.

In response, WhoCanFixMyCar.com has created a page on site for drivers to view and compare prices for re-gassing air conditioning units in their local area here: https://www.whocanfixmycar.com/services/aircon-regas
