Goodyear back in the cycling tyre business

Goodyear is introducing nine bike tyre lines; depicted here are three mountain bike tyres

Pirelli has returned to the bicycle tyre market with its PZero Velo range, and Goodyear is also making a comeback. The tyre maker has been absent for a long time – after more than three quarters of a century in the business, Goodyear stopped producing bicycle tyres in 1976. But now it is back and has already appointed a distributor for the UK and Ireland.

A range of nine tyre models is on offer. These were developed jointly with Rubber Kinetics LLC, a start-up firm headed by cycling industry veteran Luke Musselman. Models include the Eagle All-Season, Transit Speed, Transit Tour, County, Connector, Peak, Escape, Newton and Newton ST. More than 100 SKUs are already available.

“The Goodyear name first appeared on a tyre – a bicycle tyre, to be precise – in 1898,” comments Goodyear on its new cycling tyre website goodyearbike.com. “Now, 120 years after our original offering, we’re proud to introduce a new line of performance bicycle tyres. Developed with Rubber Kinetics, the Goodyear line utilises refined compounds and casings, each purpose-built for their intended environments. With Tubeless Complete designs focused on modern usage and sizes, Goodyear premium bicycle tyres offer leading-edge performance in traction, wear, rolling efficiency and puncture resistance.”

The range’s distributor in the UK and Ireland is Paligap Ltd.
