Dunlop Sport Maxx Race 2 approved by Porsche for new 911 GT3 RS

The new Porsche 911 GT3 RS will roll out on the Dunlop Sport Maxx Race 2

The new Dunlop Sport Maxx Race 2 has been approved by Porsche as original equipment for the new 911 GT3 RS. The tyre brand will supply sizes 265/35ZR20 (99Y) XL and 325/30ZR21 (108Y) XL to Porsche, both tyres carrying the N1 marking to indicate Porsche homologation.

The Sport Maxx Race successor was developed together with Porsche to meet the exceptional performance requirements for its new 911 GT3 RS. Dunlop says it delivered excellent performance on dry surfaces and ultimate track lap times for dedicated performance drivers by evolving both design and compound. With the Sport Maxx Race 2 tyres already approved for the new 911 GT3 and 911 GT2 RS, Dunlop continues its offering of specialist tyres for Porsche sportscars.

“The Sport Maxx Race 2 is an excellent match for our 911 GT3 RS, in terms of dry performance, grip and steering precision. Dunlop’s demonstrated quality and their capability to understand and implement our requirements are the key to success,” said Jan Frank, Porsche Motorsport lead development engineer.

“Dunlop equipped the first 991 GT3 with the Sport Maxx Race in 2013, and since then we have been able to build a strong tradition with the Porsche GT family and homologated our tyres for each and every model,” said Nick Harley, managing director OE consumer EMEA.

After intensive testing on the Nürburgring Nordschleife in Germany and on Porsche’s proving ground in Nardò in Italy, the Sport Maxx Race 2 was approved as OE Fitment for the 911 GT3 RS.

Delivering best lap times

Key to delivering the ultimate lap time is grip and steering precision. By optimising the tyre contour, Dunlop managed to balance the pressure distribution across the tyre’s footprint, giving the driver more feedback while cornering to improve steering precision.

The Sport Maxx Race 2 features bridges between the grooves, which enhance the tyre’s rigidity.

Dry capabilities

The Sport Maxx Race 2 is made with a motorsport derived compound, a crucial element to improve high performance driving. This race compound heats up quicker than normal compounds, which increases the friction between tyre and road. In this way it delivers extreme grip and longer performance stability when driving high performance cars.

Dunlop states its motorsport experience is a fundamental asset to its design and development of ultra-high performance tyres for sports cars like the Porsche 911 GT3 RS. Motorsport can be considered a “proving ground” since it enables to collect substantial amounts of data, feedback from drivers, and allows direct competition with other tyre brands to push the boundaries of innovation. Dunlop’s success in banner endurance races, the 24h of the Nürburgring and the 24h Le Mans races proves its tyres’ durability, performance and consistency.
