Dunlop supply to Harley-Davidson exceeds 10 million tyres

The Dunlop GT502 has been approved for the Harley-Davidson XL1200 CX Roadster

More than 10 million original equipment Dunlop tyres have now been shipped to Harley-Davidson for factory-fitment on its bikes. The entry of the supply count into eight-digit territory is the latest milestone on a journey that began more than three decades ago.

Dunlop engineers have worked with Harley-Davidson to develop tyres that meet the motorcycle manufacturer’s stringent performance standards for more than 30 years. “Harley-Davidson set demanding standards for their suppliers,” comments Andy Marfleet, marketing manager, Dunlop Motorcycle EMEA. “We are proud of our three decades working in close partnership on a range of models. The 10 millionth Harley-Davidson OE tyre is a significant landmark, and our focus is now on developing innovative new products for forthcoming new Harley-Davidson models.”

The story begins in 1981 with Dunlop’s selection as approved tyre for the Harley-Davidson Sportster. Two years later, Dunlop began supplying all original tyres for Harley-Davidson FL models. Since then, Dunlop has developed specific tyres for some of Harley-Davidson’s most iconic bikes, including the Dunlop American Elite.

The American Elite became a favourite with Harley-Davidson riders due to its enhanced mileage, which made it ideal for long distance adventures. This durability is aided by Dunlop’s MT Multi-Tread rear tyre compound, which incorporates a long-wearing compound in the centre of the tyre along with a lateral-grip compound on each shoulder for improved handling.

Recently, Harley Davidson approved the latest Dunlop GT502 for its new XL1200 CX Roadster. These two new GT502 sizes feature an all-new radial construction that is designed to suit the sportier nature of the latest Roadster with its dynamic suspension and upgraded braking components.
