Bosch expands tuition to include MOT tester training

A new course from Bosch is designed to ensure that technicians can develop the skills and knowledge to perform the statutory vehicle inspections required for MOT testing. Designed for those who are not already qualified as MOT testers, the training comes as a result of a DVSA change devolving the responsibility for training to other providers.

Bosch has a longstanding relationship with the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI), one of the awarding bodies for the training, and those who pass the final assessment will receive the IMI Level 2 Award in MOT Testing (Classes 4 and 7). Those wishing to book their MOT demonstration test with the DVSA must first hold the Level 2 Award.

The training course will include the following subject areas; working safely within a vehicle test station, communicating with colleagues and customers, managing and maintaining your CPD (Continuing Professional Development), carrying out vehicle pre-MOT checks and carrying out an MOT test. This will be covered across four days, which will include a practice assessment, with the final assessment the following week. Candidates will then be able to apply to their local DVSA area office to undergo a “Demo” test in order to receive their Certificate of Competence, issued by the DVSA.

Bosch introduced MOT tester training to complement its already extensive range of training opportunities to help workshops gain more opportunities in the independent aftermarket. The course represents a real commercial opportunity for workshops and technicians, from a training provider they can trust.

Those wishing to attend must have a number of prerequisites including; a full and current driving licence for the classes to be tested, be a skilled technician with at least 4 years’ full time employment within the service & repair sector which the technician wishes to test, to be of “good repute” and have an “appropriate” recognised qualification (full list of qualifications and prerequisites available upon request).

For those already qualified, Bosch also offers MOT Tester Continuous Professional Development (CPD) for vehicle classes 4 and 7. All existing MOT testers are now required to complete a minimum of 16 hours CPD over a rolling 5 year period, with a minimum of 3 hours annual training (on DVSA-defined topic areas) and an annual assessment to maintain their approved tester status. Bosch’s course will cover; navigating the MOT manual, driver’s view of the road, headlight aims and managing and maintaining your CPD.

The courses are currently available at the Bosch Service Training Centre in Uxbridge, near London, close to the tube and train stations.
