Pirelli introduces new knobbly enduro on/off road tyre

Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR

The Scorpion Rally STR is the newest addition to the Pirelli Scorpion family. Targeted at the latest generation of adventure, dual purpose and enduro street motorcycles, the Scorpion Rally STR is a tyre that, according to Pirelli, “combines the best performance of a rally competition tyre with that of an enduro street tyre.”

Both the front and rear tyres contain a single compound, and the manufacturer reports that this compound carries a 55 per cent silica compound. Thanks in part to Pirelli’s exclusive and patented blending process, the silica and carbon black in the compound are combined with new types of resins, oils and polymers, improving grip and consistency.

The Scorpion Rally STR tread pattern is, for want of a better word, aggressive, and it features a new geometry and block height derived from Pirelli’s experience and heritage in off-road and enduro. Modifications to the steel belt density and ply structure have increased structural stiffness and resistance of the casings to lateral and longitudinal stresses.

Pirelli says the combination of compound, structure and tread pattern “deliver superior levels of traction on dirt roads alongside comfort, grip and longevity across all riding conditions.”

The Scorpion Rally STR will be available in multiple sizes, with the first fitments expected from January as Pirelli extends its original equipment portfolio with Ducati, with fitment of Scorpion Rally STR tyres on an imminent addition to the Ducati Scrambler range.
