Pirelli Ice Zero wins harsh ice, snow test

Pirelli’s Ice Zero studded tyre has been awarded top honours in a dedicated test hosted by one of Sweden’s leading car magazines. The tyre beat eight key rivals from the best-known tyre manufacturers in the industry during a rigorous test that tested every aspect of snow and ice performance. Traction, braking, grip and handling in a variety of snow and ice conditions were assessed during the test, carried out by Swedish car magazine Teknikens Varld.

The Pirelli Ice, wrote Teknikens Varld, “wins for the first time, during a period when many manufacturers are working so hard to build good winter tyres. With its Ice Zero, Pirelli reaches a new level of grip on winter roads. The Italian tyre feels very direct on ice and snow, without losing out when the roads are cleaner.”

The Pirelli Ice Zero is tuned for extreme winter conditions, with studs that bite through surface snow and ice in order to establish the most stable grip possible, in combination with a bespoke compound. As well as hundreds of thousands of miles of road testing at dedicated winter test bases, Pirelli said it relied on motorsport experience; tyres created for the Swedish Rally feature 384 tungsten-tipped studs, locked into the tyre during vulcanisation via a patented process.
