George Payne, of PTA Tyre Consumables, dies

George Payne, a well-known and respected member of the tyre and tyre consumables market, has died at the age of 64 from the effects of motor neurone disease. Working in the tyre industry since leaving school, Payne fitted tyres and owned a tyre retail shop. He later moved into tyre procurement and latterly wholesaling tyre consumables.

George Payne was born and lived in Essex for many years, before eventually moving to the Shrewsbury area, and the Welsh borders. Over the course of his life he generated considerable respect for the way he worked with people, always willing to help with tyre related or other problems. He ran his business, PTA Tyre Consumables Ltd, from Welshpool in mid Wales, where he enjoyed conducting business with a number of tyre consumable distributors. Leaving a widow, Jan and a daughter, Faye, George Payne will be missed as an old friend to many.

George Payne’s funeral will be held at Shrewsbury Crematorium, London Road, Shrewsbury, SY2 6PS on 7 July at 11.30. If you would like to attend, contact John Halle or Paul Richardson.

The family has requested no flowers, but will welcome donations to his local hospice: Severn Hospice, Bicton Heath, Shrewsbury, SY3 8HS (telephone: 01743 236565).
