CAM completes Dragon Boat race for range of charities

Team CAM Pain

Team CAM Pain entered the 19th annual Dragon Boat Regatta at Gloucester Docks on Sunday 8 May. The team and its decorative 40-foot dragon boat raced to raise money for the event’s chosen charities: Cancer Research UK; Sue Ryder (local); “Charlie’s” – a new cancer drop-in centre in Gloucester; the Air Ambulance; and a village in Nepal destroyed by an earthquake, where the money will be used to purchase 200 new ovens being placed in newly- built houses.

The 300-metre course required a mixture of balance and physical strength. Unfortunately, the team missed out on a place in the semi-finals by 0.5 seconds. However, general manager Ryan Naughton was pleased with Team CAM Pain’s performance, saying, “The group’s teamwork was on display during each race everyone rowed and pushed each other to do their best. While we were unlucky not to make it through, overall it was a great way to raise money and we look forward to coming back next year and challenging for the title.”
