MWSD launches forged aluminium wheel option for Euro 6 tractor units

The latest Xlite and Xbrite+ forged aluminium wheels are available from MWSD

Motor Wheel Service Distribution (MWSD) has unveiled the latest Xlite and Xbrite+ forged aluminium wheels, designed predominantly for DAF vehicles and petrol and powder tractor units with a weight saving axle. The official UK distributor of Wheels India’s Xlite range has made two eight stud variations available in size 6.75”x17.5” with the 24mm weighing 13.2kg and the 30mm just 13.1kg. Both carry a load capacity of 2,725kg, making them suitable for Euro 6 vehicles.

MWSD says the new wheels will be of major interest to vehicle operators who have had to use steel wheels on the weight saving axle as forged aluminium sizes were previously unavailable. John Ellis, managing director at MWSD, said: “Traditionally the wheel used on a weight saving axle has been steel, so to bring forged aluminium options to the market and the operational benefits they will bring is a great choice for operators looking to maximise pence per mile (ppm).”

Xlite and Xbrite+ wheels are forged from a single aluminium billet using a CNC machine for a higher degree of production accuracy. MWSD states are five times stronger and 40 per cent lighter than the standard steel equivalent. Wheels are available in 17.5, 19.5 and 22.5 inch sizes.

The Xlite wheel is available in machined and polished finishes, while the Xbrite+ goes through several automated treatment stages which permeate the metal deeper to deliver a wheel with the highest levels of corrosion resistance and shine.

The ultimate advantages of operating with forged aluminium wheels include extra payloads, reduced diesel usage, decreased CO² emissions and less wear on surrounding parts, MWSD adds.
