Kal Tire opens mining tyre repair centre, plans further expansion in Australia

Kal Tire’s Mining Tire Group has opened a new mining tyre repair facility in Australia. The operation in Muswellbrook is within the Hunter Valley coalfields, some 160 miles northwest of Sydney, and is said to be the first of several measures planned by Kal Tire as part of an expansion of its mining tyre management service offerings in Eastern Australia.

“Kal Tire has been supporting the Western Australian mining industry for many years, and we were keen to bring more of our services to customers on the East Coast,” shared Darren Flint, managing director of Kal Tire Australia. “So we’re very excited to now be able to offer mining tyre repair services in New South Wales.”

Goodyear previously operated an OTR depot in Muswellbrook, and Kal Tire states that its new 10,000 square metre facility, which officially opened on 1 April, will continue to repair mining tyres that were serviced there when the site was operated by Goodyear. Up to eight tyre stands can operate at the facility at any given time, with repair of mining tyres up to 63 inches possible.

“This facility allows us to bring to New South Wales the same unique approach to tyre management our customers enjoy in Eastern Australia and around the world,” adds Flint. “We believe in solutions that offer significant, measurable value at every stage in the mining tyre life cycle, and this is just the beginning of our plans to bring a full suite of services to the East Coast.”

According to Kal Tire, the facility in Muswellbrook will gain the company’s ‘Ultra Repair’ technology towards the end of this year. The Ultra Repair process involves replacing steel belts inside ultra-class tyres using a stronger and larger cable replacement patch. The off-road tyre specialist says the application of its Ultra Repair technology offers an “offering an unrivalled ability to restore the original strength, integrity and performance of damaged ultra-class tyres at a fraction of the cost of new tyres.”

Kal Tire’s Mining Tire Group has a workforce of 1,600 employees and operates on more than 150 mine sites around the world. The company has been present in Western Australia since 2010 and operates in Kalgoorlie, Port Hedland, Geraldton and Perth.
