Video: Formula E extends 360° partnership

Beijing ePrix

Formula E has entered into a joint partnership with leading immersive technology developers 360 Racing to continue to support 360° video for the championship. This 360° video will provide fans with an immersive 360 degree look into the new groundbreaking motorsport series from the drivers’ perspective. You can see an example of the technology in the full article.

On-going development will include pioneering, interactive live streaming of a 360-degree onboard camera from four Formula E race cars during the race. The unique, patented camera system will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor, a product of Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., which is designed to enable end-to-end 4K Ultra HD mobile experiences. Similar cameras are being used in high-level surveillance by 360 Racing’s sister company, IC Real Tech.

From November, users will be able to access this innovative technology via the official Formula E App. This user controlled, second screen experience is the first of its kind. “It’s an honour to work with Formula E and Qualcomm Technologies on delivering 360° video technology that will engage the users in this unique racing series like nothing else seen before. Fans will be able to immerse themselves into the on-board cameras and look around freely as they would if there were in the car next to the pilots,” said Dmitry Kozko, president of 360 Racing and IC Real Tech.

“Technology lies at the heart of the FIA Formula E Championship as does fan interactivity,” said Ali Russell, director of Media and Strategic Partnerships at Formula E. “This new App will allow our fans to get up close to the action and feel a part of the experience whether at the track, watching at home or even on the move.”
