Josh Brookes crowned MCE British Superbike Champion

Josh Brookes’ coronation as 2015 MCE British Superbike Champion at Brands Hatch was aided by the softer (SC0) Pirelli Diablo Superbike rear tyre at Brands Hatch. The Australian rider used the tyre to gain pole position and two race wins in different conditions, achieving fast laps beyond the mid-point in the races.

While cool temperatures caused several riders to choose the harder SC1 rear tyre (including James Ellison, Michael Laverty and Peter Hickman) on the Saturday, all riders switched to the SC0 option in Sunday’s two races. Pirelli UK racing manager Jason Griffiths commented, “Brands Hatch presented us with varying track conditions and as anticipated some top notch racing to bring the season to a close. Friday’s free practice sessions saw extensive use of Diablo Rain tyres, meaning that the final free practice session early on Saturday was vital in terms of set up. Once again the performance level of the SC0 compound came to the fore, even though track temperatures were relatively low.

It was a busy weekend for Pirelli off track, with visitors and motorcycle club members in attendance for the finale. Pirelli Ultimate BSB Prize winner Nick Littler was given the red carpet treatment for the weekend, experiencing the thrill of the Nissan GTR safety car, full hospitality, grid walk, a signed Shane Byrne race tyre and also giving out the Pirelli Superstock trophies.

“Congratulations to Josh Brookes and Milwaukee Yamaha on putting together such a fantastic championship run and also to Luke Stapleford on dominating the Supersport class this season, rounding off today with yet another win and a new Supersport lap record. Our thanks to everyone who played a part in delivering such a popular and successful series,” Griffiths concluded.
