Plant upgrade to boost Michelin’s light truck/SUV tyre capacity in USA

Production capacity for high performance light truck and SUV tyres at Michelin’s Dothan factory in the US will increase by ten per cent when upgrades now being installed in the plant are completed in the summer of 2016. Michelin says it is investing US$22 million to upgrade the 35 year old plant, which currently employs 560 people. Approximately 40 new jobs will be created by the investment.

According to Pete Selleck, chairman and president of Michelin North America, the “significant” equipment upgrades being implemented will “help position Dothan to continue to be a strategic part of Michelin’s future” in the North American market. “Over the past several years, the Dothan site has demonstrated its ability to deliver the high-quality tyres that consumers demand from Michelin,” he commented. “This investment here is a testament to the trust we have in our Dothan employees.”

Michelin states it has invested more than $8.6 billion in the US since it began manufacturing tyres there in 1975.
