Fast-fits becoming slow-fits, says epyx

Only 40 per cent of motorists visiting fast-fit centres get new tyres fitted on the first visit, according to new research from e-commerce firm epyx. Instead, 60 per cent of drivers had to make a second visit.

The figures, which were released on 19 June, show that fast-fit centres are now only half as fast as they were 10 years ago.

epyx head of business development David Goodyear, suggested this trend is a reflection of how many SKUs are now stocked for each size. Or in other words, because there is too much choice: “It would be nearly impossible for a fast-fit centre to carry all the stock needed to cover the majority of the current car parc, such is the diversity of size and manufacturer.”

Here is where franchised dealers come in, according to Goodyear: “If they choose to carry a reasonable selection of stock, then they should be able to comfortably beat the first-time-fit figures being achieved by fast fits.”
