Bailey does the double in Pirelli-backed GT Cup

The GT Cup Championship at Brands Hatch

Paul Bailey, Andy Schulz and Aaron Scott were the big winners as the Pirelli-supplied GT Cup Championship staged three races at Brands Hatch last weekend.

In race one on the Grand Prix circuit Bailey and Schulz (TFF Sport Aston Martin) scored a third win out of four this season in the lead GTO class ahead of Arwyn Williams/Aaron Scott (JMH Automotive Ferrari 458 GT3).

John Seale/Jamie Stanley (FF Corse Ferrari 458 Challenge) took a hard-fought GTC win ahead of the similar car of Ivor Dunbar/Johnny Mowlem. The Webb brothers – Tom and James – secured a GTB win in their BMW E46 M3 GTR ahead of Guy Riall (Almara Racing Porsche 997 GT3 Cup). And in GTA Paul Hollywood/Jonny Adam won in their Beechdean Aston Martin GT4 – it was only the second race Hollywood had ever started.

In race two on Sunday Bailey scored a solo win from pole, with Phil Burgan (United Autosports Audi R8 LMS Ultra) second after passing GTC winner Wayne Marrs (FF Corse Ferrari 458 Challenge). He in turn was followed home in that category by team-mate Seale. Ross McEwen (JMH Automotive Porsche 997 GT3) scored a GTB class win ahead of Tom Webb, with Gary Feakins (Spy Motorsport Ginetta G50) victorious in GTA ahead of Rob Gaffney (Amigo Motorsport Ginetta G50).

Scott was a convincing winner in race three – he started from sixth and lead by the end of the first lap. Double GTO winner Bailey was second ahead of Darren Nelson (FF Corse Ferrari 458 Challenge). Gareth Downing (Staff Racing Lotus Evora GTE) took the GTC honours, with Tom Webb a winner again in GTB and Gaffney on top this time in GTA.

The next round of the GT Cup Championship takes place at Rockingham on May 23/24.
