A Dundee motorist has been awarded a brand new car by Michelin, having taken part in the tyre manufacturer’s Young Driver programme. Rachel Cameron, aged 20, from Menzieshill, received a Vauxhall Adam after taking part in the programme, targeted at employees’ children and young employees aged between 16 and 24.
Falken has been awarded the Verband der Reifenspezialisten Österreichs (VRÖ) award for best car tyre distributor. The Austrian association’s members are tyre manufacturers and importers and the results are based on a survey of all members every two years.
Dorset-based agricultural contractor, Bernard Cox Ltd is replacing one Michelin CargoXBib for another after the tyre registered five years’ service. The contractor, which works mainly on arable and grassland contracts in the Dorchester area, specified the CargoXBib 560/60 R 22.5s as original equipment on a fleet of new trailers. The tyres are now being replaced as the tread has worn sufficiently due to the intensive work they have undertaken.

Just because a tyre looks correctly inflated, it doesn’t mean it necessarily is. I was reminded of this the last time my car’s tyres were treated to a pitifully infrequent air pressure check. Tyre Bay Direct shares that a recent roadside survey performed by Sussex Police found 73 per cent of all inspected cars to have tyres at least 5psi above or below their recommended handbook pressure.
Hankook Tire reports that its sales during the fourth quarter of 2014 declined 5.2 per cent year-on-year, while operating profit decreased 4.3 per cent. In a disclosure lodged with the Korea Stock Exchange on 30 January, the tyre maker gave its sales for the final quarter of last year as KRW 1,628.1 billion (£982.6 million). Sales were KRW 1,715.5 billion in the third quarter of 2014 and KRW 1,171.9 billion in the fourth quarter of 2013.

As the SUV segment continues to reach new heights of popularity in Europe, Giti Tire has introduced its first ever Primewell brand 4×4 tyre, expanding its passenger car tyre portfolio. The Valera SUV is pitched as a “quality affordable tyre” for the European replacement market, which will expand over the next year after the sustained sharp increase in ownership of the vehicle type during 2014. The tyre is manufactured in 11 sizes from 17-20”, ranging from 215/60R17 to 275/40R20 and with speed ratings V, W and Y.
Pirelli will support local football club Burton Albion FC’s Community Trust Ghana project for the second consecutive year. The tyre manufacturer, a long-term sponsorship partner of Burton Albion, is donating £500 to apprentice Joe Green’s target of £2,500 to support his travel costs to participate in the project. The Burton Albion Community Trust Ghana project involves young people travelling to Ghana to help with various community projects, such as building houses in some of the most deprived areas in the world as well as volunteering in schools. Green will visit Ghana in May for 11 days.
UK exhaust and emission control products manufacturer Klarius has recruited a fluent German speaker to help develop its business in Europe. Thinusa Thilagarajan (22) was born and brought up in Oberhausen, Germany and has just graduated with a degree in psychology from the University of Warwick.
Although Goodyear Dunlop has trademarked the name “Sportmax RaceSmart”, it won’t be using it on a new Dunlop motorcycle race tyre this year – and has no plans for later on, either. The company has put the lid on speculation regarding this, telling Tyres & Accessories that while new developments and upgrades are continually added to the two-wheel product portfolio, there will definitely be no new Dunlop model entering the race tyre segment this year. And looking further ahead, there are no firm plans to bolster the ‘Smart’ brand family – ScootSmart, StreetSmart, RoadSmart and SportSmart – with a tyre bearing the RaceSmart name.
The Bridgestone motocross portfolio has been expanded through the addition of its Battlecross X20 soft terrain tyre. The range will be available in one front wheel size and three sizes for the rear, and will come to market in April.
