60% driving with wrong tyre pressures on Cyprus

More than 60 per cent of vehicles driving on Cyprus are doing so with the wrong tyre pressures, according to a study produced by non-governmental organisation (NGO) “Reaction Youth for the Prevention”. Looking specifically at trucks, the situation is even worse with 90 per cent running on the wrong pressures.

According to a report in the Cyprus Mail, The NGO checked 470 vehicles island wide between 29 October and 6 November and found 63.8 per cent of those in Nicosia had the wrong tyre pressure, while in Larnaca the percentage rose to 71.4.

Furthermore, the research reports that there has been a 26 per cent increase in worn tyres since last October but those on trucks have been reduced by 20 per cent.

“Tyres are one of the most important points in a vehicle and they regulate the security of the passengers since they are the only points that touch the road surface,” Reaction chairman Marios Stavrou told the Cyprus Mail.
