F1 Japan, Russia compounds announced

Pirelli has announced the compounds it will make available for the forthcoming grands prix in Japan and Russia. The exclusive tyre supplier said it would announce its final three 2014 allocations after its visit to Sochi, Russia, a brand new circuit for which Pirelli has relied on simulation data in making its compound allocation choice.

The Japanese Grand Prix takes place at the spectacular Suzuka circuit: one of the most demanding tracks of the year in terms of lateral energy. For this reason, the two hardest compounds in the range have been selected: P Zero Orange hard and P Zero White medium, to cope with the high speeds, high abrasion and fast corners.

The choice for the brand-new Sochi circuit in Russia is much more complex, as there has not yet been any representative running on the track. However, using simulation data, Pirelli engineers have calculated that the most suitable choice should be P Zero White medium and P Zero Yellow soft, a combination that is capable of covering a wide range of conditions.
