Mr Tyre acquires NSTB Group

North Staffordshire-based independent tyre dealer, NSTB Group Ltd, has been acquired by Mr Tyre Ltd.

First established in 1972, NSTB has three operational branches in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Tunstall and Longton, branded as North Staffs Tyre and Battery Autocentres. These sites offer regional coverage across the Stoke-on-Trent area. According to Vickie Hood from M&A specialist BCMS, who managed the deal, interest in the “highly reputable, multi-site business was keen, as companies in the automotive sector seek to expand their footprint.” Hood added that the fact NSTB had multiple operational sites “was key to its appeal as a business.”

New owner Mr Tyre was established in 1971 at Sutton Coldfield, in the West Midlands. Today the company operates both retail and wholesale divisions from a 100,000 square foot head office and distribution warehouse in Hockley, Birmingham. Mr Tyre has 33 fitting centres across the central England region.

BCMS says it was approached by NSTB to find a potential purchaser for the company and to manage sale negotiations. A total of 181 potential acquirers were profiled, of which BCMS says 40 expressed “significant interest”. Five organisations met with NSTB Group, but BCMS says the offer from Mr Tyre Ltd “clearly represented the best choice and optimum outcome for NSTB shareholders.”

Following this acquisition, Mr Tyre moves up two spots in our top-ten table of UK tyre retail chains by branch count, to eighth place, pushing down Bathwick Tyres (which has 32 outlets) and Modern Tyre Service (30 outlets).

BCMS also advised on the sale of Tyreland to Micheldever Tyre Services plc in 2011.
