Some six weeks after inaugurating its new tyre applied technology research building, Evonik Industries has broken ground on a new research centre at its site in Rheinfelden, Germany. The company says it is investing a “double-digit million euro” figure in the new four-storey facility, which as of early 2016 will be used for research into silanes for tyre industry and other applications. Application engineering, analytics, and quality management functions will also be located in the new centre in future.

Evonik says the centre will fit in perfectly with its integrated silane chemical production network in Rheinfelden, which encompasses research, development, application technology, and production. At the ground-breaking ceremony on 30 June 2014, Johann-Caspar Gammelin, head of Evonik’s Site Services business unit, stated: “For Germany as a business location as well as for Evonik, the ability to create something new is of vital importance. Here in Rheinfelden we are laying the foundation stone not just for the new building, but also for further innovation and therefore advanced, efficient, custom-tailored products.”
