Dunlop: Only Dubai 24h affected by Birmingham motorsport tyre factory closure

Dunlop motorsport representatives have sought to clarify that only the Dubai 24h, which Hankook recently took over as tyre supplier, has been affected by the decision to closure the company’ Birmingham motorsport tyre factory.

Indeed Dunlop reiterated to Tyres & Accessories that it “had the capability and capacity to supply all of the 24h Series events (Zandvoort, Hungaroring) this year.” Nevertheless due to the timing of the relocation of car race tyre production from Birmingham, Dunlop informed Creventic that there was a risk to supply during winter events such as the Dubai 24h. In turn Dunlop reports that Creventic therefore had to appoint an alternative supplier, and for commercial reasons they also appointed this supplier for Zandvoort.

“We wish Creventic well, they promote fantastic race events and we hope we can work with them in the future,” the statement added.

Of course the message that Dunlop is seeking to communicate is that it remains committed to Motorsport. “We have just been appointed as supplier to the new for 2014 BMW M235i Cup, and we have renewed our agreements with major championships such as International GT Open, British Touring Car Championship and continue to support our partners in Le Mans type racing and the VLN Endurance Championship at the Nurburgring,” company representatives told T&A.
